Not to be down on this chapter but I genuinely have to ask what was the point of this chapter? Before I could understand throwaway chapters like this, but now I don't see the point for these chapters here. Why give each dragon their own manga spinoff when you're gonna still waste chapters in Kobayashi's manga for filler stuff like this? This feels like it could've just been in Lucoa's own manga and not here. Kobayashi barely gets any spotlight in her own manga nowadays.

Someone could also be reading the spin-offs because they're a fan of Cool-sensei and/or that particular writer/artist. For the record, I love the Ilulu spin-off. Funnily enough, I find some of the chapters there to not be out of place in the main series, though I won't be surprised if Cool-sensei wrote those chapters (and AFAIK, they do). Also, the spin-offs are in a different publication (digital-only).

As for "fillers", while we've been getting some story-heavy chapters and character development, one of the things I like about Dragon Maid is slice-of-life chapters like these... else we'll only be left with said story-heavy chapters. And you kinda missed one of the points of this series: godly/fantasy beings wanting a life that's not just constant fighting or killing. The slice-of-life chapters keeps everything lighthearted. And like damn man, the author wants to write a fun chapter, nothing wrong with that.

As for the lack of Kobayashi focus, she is the "straight man" and POV character of the audience for the series as she's still the (mostly) normal human in this world. These characters never really get focus, and what else is there for her to develop character-wise? She's the one who's teaching most of these dragons how to live normally.

Finally, you somehow missed:

• Lucoa still not realizing her feelings for Shouta. Originally, she only accepted the familiar contract out of shits and giggles, perhaps wait a couple of decades until he dies of old age, but now she does care for him.
• Lucoa asking for help from her enemy... someone that she actually killed, and Shouta attempted to kill. Funnily enough, most of that chapter of Shouta trying to kill Tezca was of the dragon girls picking out outfits lol... which supports my point of mixing the slice-of-life with the more darker parts to lighten up the series.
• It probably stems from being in the neutral faction, we learn here she only fights if there's a good chance of winning. She disregards that just for Shouta. She can trounce most dragons, but video games is the great equalizer.
• Since Tezca has reincarnated countless times as a human, she has more experience dealing with the fantasy beings than Kobayashi... and technically being a human.

Her being surprised at the end was not what I was expecting...I thought the "point" of it all was to win it legitimately for his sake. Like it has meaning of trying and failing but to stick to it until she won fair and square, but that surprise panel means she is just dumb and wouldn't have bothered with the effort if she had realized it sooner, which I don't like as my former assumptions.

Lucoa, a literal god-like being being "contracted" as a familiar, obviously only did that cause it was fun (and a shota was involved). It says "contract" but I bet she can easily break that if she wishes, or if she somehow can't or won't break contracts since she seems the honorable-type, she can just wait for Shouta to die of old age. (also, been rereading the early chapters, and she one of the reasons she went with Shouta's summons because he was trying to summon a demon, so it's partly to protect him). Also also, one reason she's staying with Shouta is so she has a place to crash in the human world so she's essentially is/was using him, even though Shouta doesn't get anything from Lucoa since he's a mage that can conjure whatever they want.

Of course, she cares a bit about humans since she was worshipped as a goddess, but someone powerful as her has a certain detachment from mere mortals. How can she truly understand and empathize with humans if you are leagues above them? Tezca outgrew looking down on humans after countless lifetimes reincarnating over and over as a human herself without no powers, all while making friends, becoming someone's daughter, or heck, even falling in love and becoming a mother herself.

Now, Lucoa has spent more time actually living with humans to actually connect with them.

I think it's less about her being dumb, and more about her being quite set in draconic way of thinking. She saw the tournament and the prize, and the only options she considered were fighting fairly, or fighting while using magic to cheat. It didn't even occur to her that she could simply sidestep the fighting altogether.

The point of this chapter is more fun Tezca faces (the only good recently introduced character) obviously
