A man who is not taking the bait would not be holding a leaf she randomly showered him with as his greatest treasure.
I mean sentimental value from little items from someone is fine. This girl literally touched his thigh suggestively and has done other more sexual actions and he didn't do anything in fact he freaked out because he knew what she was doing was bad.
Huh. Were people really expecting Fumi—a guy in a terrible mental state after years of workplace abuse—to be someone he just couldn’t be? As the chapter title says, a "Hero"? He was barely holding himself together, clinging to the last threads of resilience, and made the only choice he felt capable of making. I can’t fault him for that. Expecting him to be anything more, given his state, feels unrealistic and unfair.

As for Akari, I’m genuinely puzzled by how quickly people got attached to her. She’s far from perfect in my eyes. Maybe it’s just me, but I need more time to connect with a character.

Thanks for the chapter!
She's not perfect in the slightest. People latched on to her because she isn't jailbait and her frank personality. Only reason why.
I didn’t say he was grooming her, I said grooming her was the only option he had left cuz this dumbass, pathetic bastard let go the perfect girl. I don’t wish to see him end with ayano, he deserves to end up all alone. I hope Akari found a good guy on her own and won’t come back to him in the present, like I’m available so why not me ? :meguuusad:
I mean he doesn't have to groom her. Idk why that's his only option
It fascinates me how we can have the same level of interest in celebrities here in the west but genuinely don’t seem to care (and maybe even celebrate) when they have relationships but how much of a cardinal in it seems to be in idol culture.
This is just a classic difference in culture which is why there's a massive disconnect. Also doesn't help the prestige of celebrities in the the West has greatly diminished thanks to social media. People these days don't really respect/care nearly as much these days for celebrities as back then in the West. I from my own pov see celebrities scorned or ignored and not cared for these days. The Gen Z and younger also don't care for older celebrities vs newer one.

Idol culture is massively different in the east where the person becomes the product. So of course there's a sense of entitlement. You spend money to support this idol as they sell their looks, purity, aesthetic, attention or in male idol's case their pretty looks and swooning dispositions. It's basically prostitution without the sex part. Personally if there's one thing Japanese/Korea Culture should learn from America at least the celebrities themselves. Is to learn to hate your fans a little. I think that mindset could help more often than not. Because fandoms are always cancer doesn't matter what it is.

To sum it up idol's sell an illusion and anything breaking that illusion will be met with scorn and hatred. It's no different to female streamers hiding they have a boyfriend.

I’ve got a lot of conflicting feelings about this chapter and Fumi’s entire backstory. I’m not going to say he’s entirely blameless but he isn't entirely at fault here either. First off, Fumi exhibits alot of characteristics of MCs that I particularly do not like, that is being spineless and often running from their problems.

Now granted, the industry Fumi works in is notorious for being soul sucking for both women and men. We even see that his boss doesn't provide a good working environment. Personally I am surprised he even lasted that long while enduring that much mental abuse.

What I will place blame on Fumi is his clear lack of establishing relationships or boundaries. We (the readers) can tell Akari liked him, as nonchalant as she played, it was shown that she did appreciate his time and company and held some sort of affection towards him but to them (the characters), they can’t read his mind and to Akari it may have seem like he was pitying her with his presence. We never see Fumi establish what Akari means to him despite constantly getting more involved with her to a point where the term “Acquaintance” can’t be applied. He keeps running and running until everything hits the fan and turns to shit. Its the same with Ayano. It’s clear that she likes him and there is no way that a grown ass man and a 13 year old can ever have a relationship but instead of drawing the line in the sand stating the clear reason why he cannot be involved with her like that, He chooses to avoid the situation.

Now I see a lot of people giving him shit for how he handled the situation where the risk of his identity would’ve been leaked. Now us westerners don't really care about the lives of celebrities but in Asia that isn't the case. People over there will tear you to shreds if you are even caught dating while being an idol. Hell, not even dating is the problem, showing any sort of affection towards a person of the opposite sentence is a death sentence for Idols. Now add that to this man’s crippling mental health…

What exactly were most of you expecting him to do?

Fumi is spineless, weak and lacks alot of self-confidence but he isn't entirely to blame here. I just hope he improves in later chapters instead of being the massive ovulating vagina that he’s shown to be during these past few chapters.

Just reread chapter 3, and damn. The mental breakdown he had that time was because of this. He could have gone through the same thing again, but good thing he has good coworkers now.

I can kinda understand why MC did what he did (or didn't do what he should have done?). Feels like most people would have done the same thing as being doxxed feels like a really scary experience (not only you, but also your family would get caught in the line of fire, I assume). To be honest, I'm surprised he stayed in this business.

This is really interesting characterization, and a very good reason as to why Fumi is so down on himself. He just sort of... let that all happen. He didn't even do anything to deserve any of what happened, but he let it roll over him and crush him without ever saying a word. He never admitted he liked Akari. He never admitted he liked being around her dad. He didn't stand up for her, he didn't fight the media, he didn't fight the company. He just let everything happen until he was fired and basically fell out of society. I feel like he was on the road to suicide if it wasn't for his sister.

It's a really interesting turn because now that we see the source of his trauma, we're actually less sympathetic to him than before. He's not at fault, but he also didn't do anything. He just let his life fall apart and let the girl he was clearly attracted to and who actually liked him back walk out of his life without saying anything at all. He was afraid, overwhelmed, not sure if he deserved any of what he had, so he wasn't able to fight for it. Which gives context without giving us a reason for sympathy. I feel for the guy, but he also let Akari down and let something precious fall away.

It also even gives a little bit of context for why his sister had the super creepy thoughts she did; cause like... she saw him at the end of his rope. Seeing a kid who seems to be head over heels for him is, at least, something that she can feel could be a source of stability and hope for the future. She's scared for him.

Wait, aren't they already cut off relationships in the first pages? Even if Fumi "saves" her, I still don't think they would get together unless he is finally serious to commit. Heck, even if Ayano or Akari confess to him, I still think he would reject it. What he wants from relationships is not love, just someone depend on him. His fault is he never makes clear boundary since the begin with.

I'm pretty disappointed in Fumi. He's gutless, indecisive, and weak.

All he had to do was answer her calls. And he failed at not being pathetic before then when he stopped talking to her before that.
She didn't call him again. It was his sister who was trying to contact him.

Akari was right about one thing, Fumi is a selfish person, he only hanged out with Akari and her father to feel needed and always created distance whenever she tried to get closer to him.

This gets proven right when the scandal happens, he really loathes himself but always ends up putting his needs above the rest, he prioritizes more his own experience at work that work itself(something that his scumbag director noticed), he doesn't really likes any of his coworkers apart from the director, going as far as to imitate his quirks like the brand of cigarettes he smokes, something that can be explained for a lack of a father figure in his childhood.

Fumi is a special kind of narcissist, the self-defeating one, always avoiding or feeling guilty when something good happens to him, an unwillingness to recognize the affection of people around him and feeling a need to be useful to anyone. (He's just like me frfr)

The sad part is that he's repeating this behaviour with Ayano too

this stressing me out fr. if i was him i would never show any interest in people's life ever. people would tell me his/her misfortune and i'll just be listening, no action, no engagement. it is cold but i gotta keep myself safe too bro . I love my oshi/idol but i would never include myself as their part of life, ever.

Im loving this so far , they are handling the story and characters so well , Fumi is such an enigma.
Also we dont know what happened to Akari , did her father died? does she hate Fumi? Would she forgive him if he comes back?
Also the director crushed Fumi's soul , i dont know worse things that meeting your hero and him being the worst person in your life.
Im lovvvving the spice in this seriess

This chapter runed the manga for me , I can't see fumi the way I used to see him, he is nothing but worthless scum, he's doing everything for himself , visitng her dad becuse its make him happy, and keep helping her becuse he want to be a source of strength for someone else , and kept lying to himself they are not a good match to not git hurt and ignores all her attempts to get close to him , maaaaaaan!!!!!!!! Fuck him

This is consistent with the behavior of an overworked low-confidence herbivore, and on the other side, deranged herbivore stalkers.

And it's a backstory, not a frontstory.

It sucks with all the backstory that happened. hopefully Fumi could be able to learn from this (kinda helps that he is in a better working environment rn).

They are trying to frame it like he was in the wrong for not going "save" her from the media, but there was no reason for the guy to destroy his life by showing there AND there was literally nothing he could do about the current situation, if anything he showing up would only make things worse by reaffirming the current narrative of her having a boyfriend.

They could keep calling each other or messaging to keep the moral high, but asking him to go there and basically commit social suicide was not the right thing to do for any of them.
She barely cared about acting to begin with, and his career as an AD died anyway. At worst, the Japanese purity faggots and paparazzi vultures would be off to gangstalk someone else within a week even if he had chosen to openly elope with her. In the end of this episode of his life, he was definitively shown to be a spineless coward who couldn’t be there for someone stupid enough to love him when it really mattered. I mean you certainly can rationalise cowardice in the name of self preservation, but it’s still cowardice.
