Then there's the comments calling Isshiki a coward for not making a clear choice between being with Akari romantically, or not. Like, if she confessed to him and then he doesn't answer, I'd get it, but she hasn't told him that she wants to be with him until she decides it won't work. He can't read minds. Like, let him know, give him some time to consider it and if he still remains mum, then you get to complain. From where I'm standing, other than not letting Akari know he's going to renege on his promise because his life is in danger, I don't see what Isshiki did wrong.
That's the thing she WAS telling Fumi about getting closer (their conversations about smoking, wanting to take her relationship to the next level once she retired, getting more open about her father's condition) but instead of rejecting her or making things clear he just straight up ignored her and pretended he didn't heard her any time the conversation came up, I like to think that Fumi did loved Akari (that's why he's still keeping the lighter she left him as a memento) but due to his own personality he thought he would only make her life worse, his main problem is that he was always leading her on but created distance everytime she reciprocated in other words, acting like a woman
Apparently it's also very wrong that he was feeling good for helping his friend out when she was going through tough times. Like, he's supposed to be emotionless when he's helping others? Any form of altruism can be interpreted as an act of selfishness if feeling good about helping others is suspect.
It was for Akari, at first she thought Fumi just wanted to get in her pants but after getting closer to him she started thinking that he actually liked her and started to enjoy his company, only for her to realize he was just hanging out with her and her father out of pity and to feel needed, not many people would like that

Yeah, I don’t get this mc, did he love Akari or not ? He never was honest with her nor himself. He did nothing, things just happened to him and he went with it, and kept avoiding getting involved with Akari, cuz she’s an idol. Even though she said she wasn’t serious about it, just doing it for her dad and all, but nah he did nothing. So she got fed up and left him, the photo get leaked, she calls him, he avoids her call to « protect her », but in the end it’s just to protect himself, he does nothing, just going with the flow and hiding himself like always.
And now he has a new jobs, a 13yd girl is in love with him, he had the perfect woman but nah he let her go, now the only option he has is grooming a 13yd. Shinzo Abe is dead because of dudes like him. Useless bastard :meguuusad:
Thanks for the translation
Isshiki is pretty easy to understand. He has a very low self-esteem, is selfish, cowardly and likes pretending to be a good person when really he isn't.

Her thoughts, motivations, and actions are ones we can empathise with much more than Ayano. IDK man, maybe it's because we're not 13-year-old genius actors.

Maybe we're just Fumifumis deep down.
And I suppose the truth is that even amongst the anime and manga fandom, most people aren’t actually lolicons (shocking I know), so no shit the attractive 20 something female character is strikingly popular in comparison to the titular 13 year old who honestly looks quite a bit younger than 13.

Frustrating chapter, but also frustrating comments so far, tbh.

As for the chapter, I hate the "He must be gay" line with a passion. If you're willing to establish the character as being especially arrogant or narcissistic then you can maybe pull it off, but otherwise you're missing a justification for why the character wouldn't go for the more obvious "He must not be into me" line of thought. You don't get to use character-believes-herself-to-be-hot (especially in a career where your looks are constantly called into question) or verbally acknowledges the size of her assets to be sizeable (thank goodness we didn't do this one this time) as a justification.

Then there's the part where Isshiki tells Akari that he'll come by, decides that it'd put himself and his family at risk but then doesn't let her know he won't be coming by. Extremely forced means of introducing drama. You can let him send her a message stating that he can't come, and then have her still be disappointed in him, but I guess that would make her look bad instead of Isshiki?

Then there's the comments calling Isshiki a coward for not making a clear choice between being with Akari romantically, or not. Like, if she confessed to him and then he doesn't answer, I'd get it, but she hasn't told him that she wants to be with him until she decides it won't work. He can't read minds. It's like there's this assumption that Isshiki must have romantic feelings for Akari because... her looks? They get along? She romantically likes him? To loop things back to the first point, it feels like everyone is on the "He must be gay" wavelength or rather the "He must be a coward" wavelength, because why else wouldn't he choose to be with Akari? Maybe he just sees her as a friend. Maybe this is what he's been telling everyone all this time. Maybe, just maybe, he's just not that into her.

i certainly would fall in love with akari just by seeing the gap between her job and daily life but alas i'm not fumi, i could feel that it was a "waste" but to him it's not a thing in the first place. i could sympathize for him feeling needed but we couldn't really leave out the part that being able to talk about tv stuff with akari's father also helped him get going despite the harsh job he has to get through, it's not just the pitying them.

by gods i'll just sum it up as "he made a mistake, but i get why he did that"

...Man, that was bleak. I know the story focuses on Ayano and Fumi's relationship, and this backstory was meant to give clarification on his past and why he acts like he does, but did this poor girl really have to suffer this much?
In her brief past appearances, it was easy to infer that she and Fumi had been caught up in a scandal of some kind, and that's indeed what happened, but i didn't expect her to be such a nice girl and have her father involved as well.
So i'm not gonna delve much on what Fumi did, was he right or wrong or whatever, plenty of comments on that already, i just wanted to vent on what happened to her because it breaks my heart:
not only she loses her carreer right after she JUST started caring about it (scandals of this type are a common trope, so if it was just that at least...);
but also from her point of view she just gets betrayed from this friend of hers who she had feelings for, to the point of wanting to cut ties since it was just too much;
and THEN on top you have the whole deal with her father, who i assume died in these 3 years, and i assume she was all alone for it, and just a few chapters ago we had him say to Fumi to be there for Akari even just once in a while, just to not leave her alone.

Like, fuck me sideways that's too sad. Again, i know the story is about something else entirely, but if this title finishes without EVER addressing what happened to her, i'm gonna feel terrible.
Just give her some kind of happy end, please.

You're thinking only of the outcome and not the lingering issue that plagued their entire "relationship". Fumi never wanted to commit or see Akari for who she was. He placed walls and barriers around them right until the very end.

Now that is fine. What's not fine is that he chose to do things half-assed. He'd still see Akari. He'd still see her dad, because being with them actually made him happy, yet would still reject them if things got uncomfortable. It is entirely a matter of communication and ignoring the real feelings of the people he's associating with because of his own fragile self-esteem.

It's a bad look no matter how you slice it. Akari cannot be blamed one bit for her choice. The real issue in the present is that he is repeating the same mistakes. Shiraki, who was completely outside the Akari matter, calls Fumi out on his indecision so the narrative is clearly framing Fumi as the "problem" here. Ayano is similarly confused because she doesn't know where she and Fumi stands, as he has yet to make that clear (this isn't totally his fault, mind you. Ayano is nuts). Bro needs to decide what he wants and to go for it.
Unstable boundaries.
