They actually wrote fleshed-out characters with complex motivations and interesting backstories, so that’s possible.

I’m glad that’s becoming more of a thing in manga, especially queer manga. So many of them are just “thou art unto a precious jewel to me, but ‘tis forbidden!” and then they get over it the end.
