@Buyobae it's basically a weak gruel for helping patients/people who may have stomach problems from diarrhea or malnutrition. In this case since our hero was essentially fasting for 10 years. His stomach might not immediately react well to sudden intakes of sugar from the sweets.

I'm an Asian and whenever i'm sick, my parent makes me porridge to help easier digestion, they use very little amount of rice if I got stomachache, so while it's very light but still count as porridge and not rice water, moreover my quick google search turned up with some rice water beauty tips and not the food, thus I have no idea that rice water is actually a real type of food.
