Not just you. It feels like they're taping a new story over the original one. I've said it before, this series should have ended when Alan stopped being an adventurer and became a Holy King.

If they really wanted to make...whatever this story is now, they could have made a mini-series featuring these two guys while they let the author cook and figure out how to bring Alan back into the story (or do a time-skip and have the son carry on his work).

yep, the series could have ended with Alan going frozen and then being waken up in the future for the big fight.
then whatever happened in the middle could be milked away.
