Agreed. Even if he didn't take part in the building process, he still designed a weapon that can end the very same world he lives in. There's no way he wouldn't have hidden a backdoor or limiter to prevent just that. I don't think Potimas is being completely upfront with them.
On that Note I need to say ... Potimas doesnt give a damn about the world. So having a weapon that destroys the world doesnt concern him in any way.
He even has his machines and stuff to flee into space when needed ... therefore he just doesnt care.

I read the web novel, and this entire battle thing wasn't in it. I can only guess it is from the light novel. Why the editors allowed it, I've no idea.

Makes as much sense as adding tanooki everywhere.

Complaint's being said, I think I know how this is going to end, to create a different parallel from the web novel, yet have the same result. The underground base plot point they found ended differently, so I'm guessing they will reach the same point after this UFO thing. Just dragging this event out with this fight.

The editors probably thought what happened in the WN was way too easy.

And also... with this Okina was able to introduce a new Dragon Boss (Hyuvan), where in the Web Novel he appears really late in the story.

I think high stakes like "the end of the world" are fine for long-term objectives, eventually leaving to the fight against the final boss (but maybe I'm just too used to games where a boy from a small village saves the universe...).

But this arc feels more like a random encounter, without any preparations/foreshadowing, making the stakes disproportionately high.

"Wild SEPHIROTH appeared! SEPHIROTH used Super Nova! SHIRO-CHAN is confused!"

There's not that much foreshadowing in the Light Novel either, except we know that White will evolve again at some point (her last form is in the manga too). There's also some kind of foreshadowing with the Elves's technology. Now we see how much advanced this planet once was.

Agreed. Man, i missed that adrenaline rush. At least i am curious about the baby. This whole machine arc is a no no
I'm actually scared how they are going to draw Sophie's teenage form. Not forgiving it's problems, but the anime at least made her look absolutely gorgeous (best looking character imho). Looking what they did to Shiro-chan and Sophie's servant (in the manga)....yeah, I'm afraid....

So he's giving it to Shiro because he thought she is strong enough to handle it, but weak enough to die just from the recoil?

More than this, he's the shittiest person here after all.
I'll take Potty any day, at least I know he's shit from the get go with no hope of changing.

SHUN on the other hand will just keep getting worst.

Being honest, I don't understand complaints about this arc, because after all Kumoko's interactions with the Gods and the World's system something like this was bound to happen at any possible moment.

I see no problem with it. We get some interactions with Sophie, Servant and Aria. Humanized the lower (of the high) tier spider underlings. Was taking a break from the back to back near death experiences. And it drives home just why the elves need to be killed off besides "Sensei" (well depending on how they draw her, she was hella cute in the anime).

A lot of people were here for the death defying determination of Kumoko under extreme stress and odds. However, since she had her latest evolution, she has pretty much not had to fear anything or really fight for her life anymore.

To be fair to readers, given that the entire first part of the story was based on this experience manga wise, there's no reason to expect anything else and the current arcs are like cognitive dissonance.

This is something I will grant isn't done that well by the manga. The WN and LN are better because they interspersed stories about the "heroes" along side kumoko's underground stories, which turned out to be future events. There were also more lore drops and hints about the state of the world and how broken it was. The result is that you get the sense that Kumoko came out of one shitty situation into another one and continues to apply her classic dogged determination to it. Not only that, she is actively dragging everyone else into it. This happens much more quickly in the WN, while the LN achieves the effect by offering more detailed information about the world. Later on in the LN, something also happens to her that....makes things difficult for her again, compared to the WN. It's still different from the pure adrenaline of the underground arcs, true, but a lot of the same fatalistic themes are there. The manga basically also suffers from slower story progression compared to the quick and fast novel chapters.

I will add this though. Do remember that this series is (or was, it's already completed) quite popular in Japan. A large proportion of readers already read one or the other. So the manga doesn't have to really try and achieve the same feeling. Like those readers you are better off reading the novels first. Though the truth is, this might just not have been the series you expected/wanted, which would have been clearer to you in the novels.

All of the world building surrounding the game system has been progressively thrown away since coming to the surface.

The majority of plot developments have been shelved immediately and every new thing feels like a non-sequitur. It feels like the manga is just trying to skip through content as fast as possible.

"We have to walk on foot to some place because reasons, oh wait, UFO, and elves or something... "

It's like a disassociative fever dream at this point.

So... It's like the Harry Potter movies. They are a chopped up version of the books 99% of movie watchers have seen and so aren't lost by the new additions with little foreshadowing in the movie/manga?

Yeah, I'm seriously starting to doubt the part about someone else building it merely based on his plans.
"No, it totally wasn't us, even though we're the only ones with the technological infrastructure anywhere near on the level necessary to build this sort of superweapon!"

Yeah, as the youths these days say: sus.

Shun isn’t likeable at all. But he is made in that way to make fun of all the normal heroes. He gets a harem out of nowhere for being “brave”(read stupid that think friendship will solve everything) and cannot accept people will need to be sacrificed in some way. He fumbles all the way to the end and accomplish nothing.

It just gets clearer that the game system isnt native and just "a big cover up" in itself. That once you reach a point of beeing broken, you can see behind it and how F'ed up everything truly is.
Naturally with the chapters of the other characters missing we dont see all of it yet but we still will be.

Also the reasons for not using teleportation was said before they departed and the point of the elves was already pointed out by picking up Sophia. Which again is a glimpse of the truth of the world.

Also I recall that the mangaka etc always said that this story will always focus on Shiro. Its beeing true to the novels but still doing something "new". If you dont like that is the same like people started disliking Overlord for Ainz beeing evil. It was said from the beginning and you simply had the wrong expectations.
