I love that unlike most traditional Tolkienesk fantasy elves, these guys are just straight up evil (at least the main guy) and they embrace advance technology as opposed to nature and mare traditional magic. Little changes like these make a normally stock "evil because evil" villain like Potimas much more interesting imo.

That's because the Manga cut all of the side PoV.
It makes manga-readers happy, but once the story really starts... well there's 0 story to tell.

I feel like it says more to the "side" story that you think there's 0 story to them once we're done with Shiro's side in the manga.

I watched the anime while the translation for the manga languished, and I much prefer the flow of what we're getting in the manga instead of the switching to people I don't care about in their standard RPG isekai situation.

Yeah well, the problem with this series is that the story and the worldbuilding come from the side characters. White is mainly here for the comedy. Ironically, it's when White starts doing stuff that makes the story moves forward that she starts to lose the PoV as well.
That's also the reason why the Manga feels like the story goes nowhere : all relevancy to the story was cut alongside the side character's PoV. And I'm not even talking about Shun, I'm talking about Ariel, Merazophis, Wrath, Dustin, Potimas, Julius, the old magician (if you think the threat of the other Kumoko came out of nowhere, that's normal : the old magician's PoV was completely cut), Agner, Bloe, Balto...
No wonder you don't like the supposed to be good guys, when the Manga made them so dirty (and it doesn't help the author doesn't know how to draw humans).

Also, the situation Shun is in, is not typical in an Isekai.

Good golly are those faces ugly. Reading this is just really not a good time. Ah well.
Well the Mangaka was probably hired for his skills to draw monsters (...and Hentai). They should have replaced him as soon as the story shifts toward humanoids.

Well. Not like Shiro was ever particularly fond of her classmates anyways.

When I watched the anime, the manga translation was still in Elro Great Labyrinth. I don't care what they looked like, they were not interesting to me because they are not the titular spider (who I do like the manga look much more compared to the anime's big googly eyes spider), and they are not facing the perils that Shiro/Kumoko was facing. The anime also ends right as they link Shiro and Kumoko's identity, and no season 2 yet means that they showed me a huge time gap, and nothing to fill it with.

While yes, telling both stories in parallel does lead to that neat moment and the reveal that Kumoko was reincarnated earlier etc etc, and the manga going chronologically does mean that it loses out on practically half of the story,...

I don't really mind, because the story isn't titled "Our Whole Classroom Was Reincarnated Into A Fantasy World". Skipping the classmates' POV means I am actually getting a cohesive full story instead of two connected halves. What I want to know is how Kumoko became Shiro, and the manga's telling got me there, while the anime "wasted" its runtime taking the camera over to these people who have yet to show why they matter.

We learned why Taboo is bad, we learned about the gods, D, Elves, etc etc etc from the spider story side well enough. The Good Guys side feels irrelevant in comparison.

If the story was centered around Shun, then maybe I'd have liked to read more of that side. But it's not. The titular character is the spider. Shun's struggles is not interesting. Kumoko's is.

Kumoko wasn't reincarnated early, they were all reincarnated at the same time.
But when all the others were babies, she was fighting for her survival.
No the real reveal of the flashforward is that Kumoko is the main antagonist.

Half of the story is centered around Kumoko and the second half is centered around everyone else. From the beginning it's a multi-POV story.
Btw, as much as I like Kumoko (second favorite character after Ariel), her story is not that much interesting to me. What drove me in was the Shun's side.

i thought the Demon King was just gonna execute Walkis by chomping him herself
That was loyalty test for Blow and he failed hard despite his brother and Walkis himself trying to save his ass.
So now he had been designated a scapegoat position and all rebel elements will come under his banner to be squashed at opportune time.

She was never the antagonist. That'd be Potimas and D. The anime's reveal is only that she's alive, but Shun obliviously fighting for the elves at that point.

It revealed two things : Kumoko's identity (who was unknown in the Light Novel up to that point) and she was the Master mentionned by Sophia and the one behind the murder of Julius and the King.
She's the main antagonist of the flashforwards and also an important lesson about the series : villainy is only a matter of point of view.
Btw, D and Potimas are not antagonists in the Flashforward. Nobody knows who D is and Potimas is shown to be on their sides.
