I really hope they're using this cliché trope as a trigger for some much needed character development for her. She's not a terrible character just bland like cardboard. She needs some kick, some aggression, something that sets her from the rest aside from being extremely passive

NGL, while this backstory fits to Kusunoki's aversion when it comes to romance, it honestly just doesn't add an interesting angle on her as a character. It's written to be the sort of backstory that keeps her perfect blonde girl image by putting the blame on her issues to other people. Not to mention, childhood betrayal tropes are dime a dozen and how it is executed on this one is pretty cliche. It's so cliche that it's on brand with how cliche and bland Kusunoki's character is.
