Gao Shun is probably an actual eunuch. The reason Jinshi is allowed inside the inner palace despite not being a eunuch is officially he's the Emperor's little brother, Gao Shun doesn't have that privilege.

The reason Gao Shun was drinking that concoction in chapter 34 is probably to test for poison.

I believe he also drinks the same potions as jinshi to avoid... been discovered. When jinshi was drinking it, he advised to stop. As he might be sterile if he keeps going. Jinshi then says to him that if he is not the same, he then answered that he already has children. It doesnt matter

Hey hey! In case no one has replied, here are my thoughts as well:

It has been brought up (either in manga or LN, cant recall) that doesnt matter if they replace the maids, the next maids (if theyre unlucky) would really just disrespect Lishu bc she doesnt command respect as a concubine. Not her fault tbh but the chance of getting a new set opportunistic maid that takes advantage of a naive consort is high.

My personal thoughts, unless they get a new set of maids who are actually nice and who really care about Lishu as a person, then the cycle would just continue.

Omg this whole time I was so confused about Ri Shu's head maid. If she was the one who tried to kill her, why did she remain head maid??? I've reread it like three times and I finally get it now.

I know it's not gonna happen, but I wish the emperor would let Ri Shu go. Shit life she's living right now, & I'd like to hope the emperor doesn't have any interest in someone he watched grow up (unlikely but I can dream). I also could not imagine being catty to a little girl, even if she was in the position I wanted to be in, I'd feel bad because it's clearly affecting her negatively, and hating on a kid would make me feel stupid. They're also dumb because it would also be so easy to make her your pawn. she'd be so easy to groom into whatever you want since she has no one else to rely on and would probably become unhealthily attached to anyone who treats her well. Play the long game people!

Ngl I'm very confused on why they didn't the first time since (and I could be misremembering), it was basically confirmed all of her maids were bullying her, to the point where they were feeding her poison (feeding someone something you know they're allergic too is poisoning them). Like??? Why not replace the whole staff then, and reduce the size.

The maids can't be easily replaced for the same reason Rishu can't. The reason she came back to the inner palace was because her powerful family basically forced the emperor to take her back in. By extension, they control who could be her maids. It's like how Gyokuyou's maids are all subjects of her father and Rifa's maids are all related to her in some way (her head maid was her cousin). The only consort whose maids share no special clan relationship with was Aaduo, but in her case they're an army of fanatical loyalists who were willing to literally die for her. Of course, in Rishu's case her powerful family probably still have no idea how their chosen servants had been treating their daughter.

Gaoshun's cover story is that he was a senior military officer with a family who incurred the wrath of the Empress Regnant and was punished by being turned into a eunuch. With the ER gone he's now been restored to honor somewhat by having himself and his son be made responsible for the imperial brother's safety - supposedly.

I really hope Lishu gets a good ending.

She is having a horrible childhood. Separated from her family to be married to a pedophile. He dies (thankfully) gets sent to a convent instead of her family, then suddenly brought back to be married to the next emperor who isn't sexually interested in her (thankfully) but because of that, she gets shit on and bullied by her maids because her husband doesn't want to fuck a 14 year old.

Every chapter she is always isolated, alone and sad and I just want this child to be happy, safe, and be reunited with Ah Dou.
