Looking for a darker oriented manga that will keep me on the edge of my seat and make me feel something... anything.

Jesus christ thanks everyone. I have a lot of new manga to go through. A surprising amount of non modern manga and just in general a whole shit load of different takes on what people consider to be a strong and impactful read.

Threads like these make me realize just how new to the anime/manga scene I am (and this account alone is nearly three years old). Maybe I should stop watching nearly every airing anime and garbage like Tales of Zestiria and actually get to some good shit... Nahhhh. In any case, here's my humble suggestions if you're still taking them.

My Lesbian Experience with Loneliness
Deals with depression and mental illness

Goodnight Punpun
Follow the eponymous main character through turbulent stages of life

Land of the Lustrous
Take a puppy, then hit it with a shovel until you split the atom

Just read chainsaw man and fire punch and they were both relatively high profile mangas that are right up my alley and I'm absolutely surprised i haven't seen them before now. So figured id ask around on the forums because you guys usually have some pretty killer suggestions.

As a add-on note i have come to love manga that doesn't treat the reader like a child so im looking to find stuff like ajin become human or fable are great examples of this they kill of characters and plot points skillfully and almost never use cheap deus ex machina tactics after the author has written themselves into a courier.

If you know of any hidden gems or just good suggestions Id love to know about them thank you.
Got one!!
Found this one when clicking the "random" option on mangadex. It's honestly pretty heavy and thought provoking. The artstyle can look a bit old-ish, but it gets SO much better as the story progresses. Here it is:

AND, there is a kind of sequel/spin-off to it? I only read one chapter so far, but it looks VERY promising:

OH!! I cannot forget. This was one of the first mangas I read here on mangadex. The artstyle is charming, and it kept me on edge in every chapter!!

Hope this helped!! A lot of reccomendations in these answers are great!!
