The light clan reminds me of the Nazi scientists, it sounds like at some point with nothing to do since the dark clan were no threat they started experimenting with the humans they empowered and found a way to make them more powerful while also making them unable to ever leave the clan since they would slowly die. Even ancestor seemed slightly concerned for the magical girls.
