Chapter 52 page 20 the Narahate mention they used to be "challengers of the Abyss"

Chapter 51 at the end Vueko mentions "all the visitors"

and Chapter 40 page 23 and 24 when Majkajya is explaing the Narahate he says they were all people who challenged the abyss but gave up.

Considering all the delving gear in the market, and Wazukyan's mention that the village is 150 years old (in 6th layer time, which is likely many hundreds if not thousands in surface time), and all those sources mentioned above

The villagers who weren't part of the suicide corps are just delvers who decided to "settle" in the city. Giving their body to the village like seen when Belafu gave himself to the village in chapter 51.

Maybe some did it out of desperation, maybe some liked the village, maybe some were temlted by the whole "form of your desire" thing when becoming Narahate.

And i hope this arc someway ends with Faputa following they in their "adventure" down the abyss. The hint was delivered in the last flashback talk.

She's not crazy. She was birthed by the creature who became the village to kill the villagers and the village itself. It is her purpose in life. To get revenge for her ex-human mother, whom the villagers used and abused and tortured until she was nothing more than shelter for her abusers. Anything other than that is because she's otherwise an empty vessel and thus lacks common sense due to learning-in-the-wild.

Agreed. They've lived too long, and for no reason. They don't even honor the sacrifice they FORCED on Faputa's mother. The pain as they snatched her beloved children away and used them up for their own ends.

@deadvote Whistles activate certain special relics. Reg seem to be made out of relics or to be an relic as he is described as an aubade (a relic beyond anything known) and so it seems that a hidden power in him is activated by Prushka, as we first saw in chapter 46.
