Delkira was such a perfect Demon King that no one could act as his advisor. Not even the Kingmaker was good enough.

Man, that's such a badass thing to be. Like, Mephisto doesn't hate Delkira for being perfect but holds some resentment because that perfection invalidates his very existence. He can't help but have a love-hate thing.

this was a completely unexpected chapter and i'm fully here for it! lore drop chapters are always my favorite, especially when they actually move the story forward. to think that a many eared was the demon king but 2 generations ago and no one even remembers him nor mephisto who was his right hand and the one given the role of kingmaker! mephisto choosing to test iruma by having him build a kingdom for the many eared tribe now has some actual deeper meaning. and the fact he chose to test iruma means he has all but assuredly chosen him as the next demon king. best chapter in forever!

I think what Mephisto truly wanted was to have a place beside Delkira, and he'll learn through Iruma that he doesn't necessarily need to become the Kingmaker to stand by his ruler.

It's possible choosing this as an assignment is more personal.

The race the Demon King you last raised is reduced to refugees that can only rely on other demons to survive has gotta be frustrating, and having Iruma go through this is Hitting two birds with one stone.

I do wonder... Has he chosen or is he still in the Assessment phase? Coz this is still just a test for Iruma to rank up and the actual trickster plan will involve the Misfits as candidates as well.

So will Mephisto scout the other misfits for their potential as well?

This is genuinely hilarious. Mephisto was stripped of his entire purpose because the last dude was just too perfect and now the world is finally ready for him to help shape a new king and he’s stuck in a freaking kindergarten. I feel like it’ll end the same though. Iruma will reject his help and choose his own path just like the last guy. It’ll further cement the parallels between the two and might actually impress Him

also, was that demon lord a member of the many ears race or were those just horns? If a many eared can become a demon lord, they’ve clearly got more potential than they realize

I don't think he's an ME himself. He served a Demon King who happens to be an ME.

EDIT: I might've misread this. If you meant Mephisto had a personal stake with this test because he served a Demon King (one of if not the most powerful demons in the underworld) who happens to be a Many Ears (a race who are "forced" into being specialists, and IIRC have low magic power), then yes, it probably means something to him.
