I think maybe he's accompanying a demon(human), and probably the aspect of a demon making a human the king of demons, something along those lines.

Mmm, could Mephisto be the reason Sullivan made Iruma chant a forbidden spell on the first day of school? also I think is super cool that Mephisto doesnt follow the rules because he is inspired on a demon of literature, not one found in the Ars Goetia or myths like the majority of demons shown so far

I think the reason Sullivan did that was to give Iruma a boost because without Ali, he can't actually use magic, so he wasn't at risk of messing the spell up.
