It feels like it's doing that manga romcom thing where everything is set up pointing towards a specific outcome that might alienate most of a general audience and so it just... dances around the issue and does nothing.
We've got the monster with the mad crush on the girl and the girl who hates humans and adores fluffy monsters, unclear in what manner. Their motivations for feeling the way they do remain relatively unexplored. Whether their romance could ever get off the ground is also pointedly unexplored. We get almost a complete nothingburger... Meanwhile the author clearly is spending all their time thinking about the monster/girl form of the pairing.
Like, at this point, why not just go for it? Let them kiss, or confess, or whatever. Like if we're going to do this anyway, at least let them be happy.
(I realize with this pacing it may just be something like "well, the author thought they might write more", though)
