MangaDex Development Update - April 2026

I get that people love the forum and that using the word 'obscure' to describe it feels bad, but let's not take the line out of context here. 😓

People have been screaming for MangaDex to do better when it comes to communication (I know I've been advocating for it). Here's a feature where you can access the site updates from the main site with a new notification number attached to it to let you know that there's a new announcement. And they released it together with the rest of the update.

Before, you either had to either go to the forums to look for new announcement threads (which aren't visible from the main site) or join the discord for announcements. There are still improvements to be made when it comes to the communication, but at least they're making steps in the right direction imo.

Is there a way for us to know if we get replies on the new main comments?

Replies still need to be implemented for title and chapter comments, so we'll have to see how they tackle that after that gets implemented.

I wonder how it's implemented for feed post comments. Does the OP get notified for those? (Prob not through XenForo )

Actually, it seems you’ll still be able to create forum threads through the comments. Dunno why they didn’t communicate that loud and clear.

How do I actually do that? Because a new chapter of a series I follow has released and I want the comment on it.

If you still think we haven't told anyone that this was going to happen, please try to make your attention span last a bit longer (at least 30s), because it's starting to get annoying seeing how people just complain about stuff for the sake of complaining.

Dude, I'll be real with you, I can guarantee to you vast majority of the people won't notice or care for that "Notice" secion, like at all

Why? Because vast majority of users jump on the site to see what mangas they read got new chapter uploaded and then at best they go from there to the chapter comments, that's it

Maybe, just MAYBE, there should have been a poll or something about that to see how many people actually care about that?

Like, sorry dude, but I fear that this integrated comments won't see much use because a lot of people will want proper discussion so they'll use forum as it was always the case

It's not just about attention span, people just don't pay attention to anything unrelated to reading manga and at best the comments of a chapter, if you REALLY want people to see whatver new notification / update you guys make you need to make it impossible to miss, like put it at the top of the screen already open to be read

It is the one feature that allows scanlators to interact with and be appreciated by their readers. MangaDex is a huge part of the English-speaking manga community, so to take that away feels like abandoning the community's roots.

Taking a closer look, it seems that having comments under a conversation will cause the 'Read X older comments' thing to disappear, so you have to use the three dots I guess. What a weird spot.

For me I dont know, id rather for you guys to just stick to the V3 style or just straight up like comick where after the chapter full of shitposter posting weird shit and top upvoter gain the spotlight.

Like @detarameMangadex the old features is the one allowing the scanlator and the community bonding together and talk about how the chapter goes or atleast a thanks for the chapter/tl...
Having one more step or click to discuss things is like Register to continue playing the game.

While I appreciate the dedication of the improvements, but having too much improvement instead focusing one by one will destroy mangodex reputation.

Id rather have V3 anytime of the day.

Like, I don't know man, but it feels to me you people listened to the wrong users cause the actual posters have always used the forum to discuss chapters and don't think anyone ever complained, vast majority of users always used it and always will cause it's the only way to have proper discussions

So the complaints are without doubt a small minority that will barely have any traffic in comment sections since people who already uses the forum will most likely not leave for the new comment area

For what it's worth I'm thankful you guys are doing your best to keep the website (both the manga and comments/forums) accessible to free users like me while trying not to get nuked by DMCA.

But having to scroll through 100+ posts in this thread to find your clarification that 'forum-style chapter discussions arent gonna be phased out' does not help with calming user anxiety

"Become a supporter to gain early access, too!"
So what, limiting comments only for supporters huh? Or what? Will I be able to comment on it after let's say 5 days?
Unless you're enabling that as an early, experimental access that will soon be available to everyone wouldn't you make the message more clear like:

"Integrated comments experimental function only available to supporters only. Become a supporter to gain early access"

or something like that?

This is how I feel about it not gonna lie, like, vast majority of users will always use the forum cause it's the only way to have proper discussions, trying to have two comment sections for a chapter sounds like just a way to try kill any discussion at all

Reminds me of how Discord completely changed UI for the sake of changing to keep executives happy

Really mods, no offense and I'm sincerely saying this, with changes like this you guys should do some poll or whatever cause it feels you guys are listening to people who are a minority and not the actual main users of the community :v

Listening to TikTok kids is not a winning strategy lol (I feel old by saying that :v)

It really does look like it falls down to "gen something/gamers can't read" or "needing a reminder every 30 secs", when you point it out that way, doesn't it?

Making the call to have both should satisfy both, as pointed out here by some users already. Because why not both? Both is good.

The only real complaint I'm seeing is how the old forum threads are being buried under the [Read X older comments] button instead after clicking the button that used to directly link to the forums, making it seem more like it's a failure in the execution of keeping both than anything serious. How tedious would it be for both options to have their own dedicated buttons up front, instead of burying one under the other?

Just trying to get to the forum thread for the chapter marks it as read with these new in-line Comments when clicking on the forums button beside the chapter because it LOADS the chapter. This is horsecrap!

Give us a setting maybe if you INSIST on the inline that will let us default to the forums.

I saw the argument that nobody is going to care about notifications because they just want to read manga and so what? They won't be using the comments or forums anyway!
Why the hell are you basing decisions on what people who don't use the feature in the first place do??

Genuinely. The thing i always wanted was better ability to do formatted stuff here in the forums. Adding media was a game changer for visual gags. Infinitely better than all other Manga sites/apps. Now its gonna be as hollow as mangaplus

I'd be fine with the new comments system as long as the link to the forums is just as prominent. Like, same size as the button to open the new integrated comments, and also be placed right next to it.

I thought about this the other day or I have said it on the General Forums... Itll be great if they make a pop up and make it 100 percent sure every guest and user know about a new updates. It will be suck 100 percent sure too, because every idea came to my head is mostly trash
