Because he actively doesn't want to be married to this woman, he harbors an incredibly deep hatred for demons on account of the whole murdering-humans thing, he didn't previously have reason to suspect Celestina is up to anything nefarious (especially not to this degree), and, most notably, he is very likely politically savvy enough to know that laying his hands on the human princess to save the demon princess would end extremely poorly for him once the rest of the human royalty faction find out. (He may also suspect that Celestina is not actually physically capable of choking out a demon, and he's probably right.) We readers have the benefit of omniscience, so we know what's going on inside Liselotte's and Celestina's heads and having our rooting interests accordingly. Swordbro here doesn't have that.

And yet, the human princess is currently actively attempting to murder the demon princess after she deliberately rendered herself mostly powerless as a gesture of goodwill. If she succeeded, the war would be back on, and humans would be completely eradicated to the very last woman and the very last child, and he knows that, and he still chose to do nothing. I can’t say I don’t appreciate that he has actively dissented to this situation the entire time and hates the demon princess and demons altogether with every fiber of his being, but he’s also actively one of the dumbest and least likable people in this series. The demon princess is just as stupid and deserves to be assassinated, though. She should have taken the hint by now, but seeing this man she’s infatuated with actively choose to stand there in a stupor while she is being choked to death should make her question why she even likes him. Too bad she doesn’t realize she’s effectively the marriage equivalent of a rapist and she’s entrapped this disgusting man against his will in an equally disgusting act of coercion to satisfy her strange obsession, but this story was never going to be good right from the start.
