>box magazine shotgun
>still has pump action and tubular mag
I expected nothing less from the people who designed the Nambu

How useful are guns in a magical setting, anyway? One damage type, easily stolen, they rely on newtonian physics, they're loud, and can mechanically fail, they use ammunition. It seems like they'd be best paired with anti-magic, but if you use that enough it just becomes a nonmagical setting.

It's plausible as far as the features you listed.
There do exist semi-auto shotguns with pump action for manual handling. The SPAS-12 for example. The SPAS-15 uses a box magazine if you want something even closer. The pump could explain there not being a charging handle and I can excuse the tube magazine as redundancy/leftover since it was remodeled.
What's left is explaining the operating mechanism.

I get that this is fantasy, but 4-gauge... that'd be 3x the power of a standard 12-guage shotgun. Wielded by a girl weighing at most 80lbs. Physics and magic just don't mix.

Edit: Still, not the worst attempt by a mangaka using guns in their stories. It seems most Japanese are just completely clueless when it comes to firearms.

The word 'magic' was originally used to conveniently solve every difficult problem anyway. It's not like you need anything valuable to carry out an ordinarily costly research and you can even easily modify stuffs to test out new things/concepts. The elf-eared loli has a megabrain after all; what she needs is only a mother-concept (shotgun) for her to branch into daughter-concepts like semi-auto mode, etc.
And the loli over there are demons so their physical strength is out of question.

Right? Glad I wasn't the only one thinking about this. I understand she's a master-level blacksmith but shooting one of those would cause the shotgun to just fly out of their hands or knock them on their butt. Like you said though, it is fantasy :p I've only seen one heavily modified 12-gauge that's looked like the 4-gauge in the manga, guy on youtube made it but he didn't post a picture of him shooting it.

If it could actually be handled, this shotgun would be the wet dream of all zombie hunters.

Also, my uncle is called Marco, which makes it pretty weird.

The shotgun was rifled, which means it's meant to shoot slugs. 4 gauge slugs. Quite a monster gun. Might make even a dragon feel irritated.
