Personally I quite like this idea. Even as an enemy it's just too pitiful for him to die without any purpose like that, so I'd like to think there's some purpose why Author wrote the story like that.Maybe its me being overly suspicious, but that adventurer looks like he may just be that demonlord of despair (at least based on the partial look).
It would be so fitting if, in this moment of Black being in such despair himself, that demonlord could hold some greater power over him just like Black holding power over those with hate (or whatever the emotion was).
It would also explain why he would make a contract to give up his body. The only time it would come up was that time when black would experience despair (since when else would he 'stoop' to relying on his failsafe.
Author hasn't made any glaringly obvious plot hole so far, so I hope this doesn't turn out to be the first one.
