He can't eat other people's food. He can't eat a restaurants. He declines to eat his girlfriend's food. He must not see her on days she cooks because he can only eat at home by himself or when he cooks for them when together.

Depends on how early on they're into the relationship but if he's like "can't bring it home" i think it's implied that they live together if not close by/they're already to the point she's making lunch unless she usually does it for her partners/early on by their standards to be more 'appealing' as a gf (but other than untrained half-assed chefs, i'd imagine more ppl would properly sanitize before using equipment, esp in a country like japan where you learn how to cook as early as like middle school), germophobe aside if this was a more serious story i'd half expect some kinda eating disorder like that one hoshi sensei chapter where a student can't eat 'with other ppl/being watched' but that's a whole diff convo

(although even tho he said 'germophobe', it's not like he reacted too badly when meshinuma touched his hand or handled gloves while trying to throw the bento out so maybe there's just other reasons [i know ppl have made jokes about 'don't eat gas station sushi' but i bet 711 sushi in jp directly prolly wouldn't be as much of a 'risk', i might not trust some stranger just handing out free homemade food versus a coworker or relative but idk if we'll see the continuation of his story -- looking at the last page again it is a weird tiny table/he doesn't necessarily need to watch versus being 'convinced' or like, just sitting with him at lunch to get his box back or so to do the dishes])

See that's the thing, he makes mistakes because he doesn't pay attention to much else. It's not that he's selfish it's just that food tends to come first and he always focuses on that, but now instead of enjoying his dinner he was still thinking about the lunch - wanting to have more but feeling guilty about it.

Maybe he needs to snack more on breaks or before work (since it's hard to think on an empty stomach) but while he's made some mistakes, it's nothing that'd be 'fire-worthy' (tho i hear it's hard to get fired from a job versus them sticking you in a corner somewhere to where you're expected to resign 'voluntarily') but there was like one chapter where it was the chief's issue and meshinuma having to 'fix' it , he might not get a promotion anytime soon but other than that one 'athletic' guy yelling at him to be more bold, i don't think it's like he's as much of a 'useless' worker to where the coworkers are complaining

But yeah maybe he'd make money being a mukbanger or turning his 'notes' into a food review blog haha

It is likely he has OCD. OCD manifested differently for different people. Some people are afraid of eating foods made by other people for fear of food poisoning but are fine with touching and interaction. My aunt is the same at him. She won't eat food made by others. I am the opposite. I don't like touching other people. OCD causes intense anxiety and it is hard to talk to other people about it. Only my parents know about my condition. My cousins and other relatives don't know about it since I always take a bath after meeting someone and keep my OCD a secret for fear of being shunned or pitied.

Yeah it’s a shame but be hard to hide from a partner forever if not just trying to be delicate and saying you don’t want a custom bento but at least Meshinumas eating it versus the coworker just trashing the food
