I just assumed the author was going for EVE Online, though before he got a capital ship I was also getting Freespace vibes.
He's lifting from a few games, but there's a LOT of Elite Dangerous in here. The Krishna's a friggin' Fer-De-Lance, and the two-layered FTL drive (with different modes for in-system and interstellar travel> is a rather unique setting quirk. And I'm so proud that Hiro's a fellow Imperial main instead of Federation scum.
I can call out a bunch of specific items I recognize from Elite too, like food cartridges, artificial meats, and shield cells.
Also, there's just the general feel of combat. I can hear the ship's computer saying "flight assist off" at times.
But the universe isn't just built off of Elite. There's jumpgates for a THIRD layer of FTL travel, Earth isn't the center of inhabited space, magic and non-human races exist, the crystalline entities aren't thargoid-coded, and Elite doesn't really have raid encounters like this.
