probably the ghost just saw michiru's sister saying all that and saw it worked(somebody responded opening the door) so he tried to do the same thing. wich make me think how fuckedup this is. like imagine miko is in her room minding her business and her mother calls her. Them she answers... but it was a ghost.
like one of those "best short horror stories"
<I heard my mom calling from down stairs, but when I opened the door I saw her across the corridor -shhh I heard it too- she said>

i wonder if the reason for the older sisters ghost staying so far behind is the tentacle ghost, Im assuming its quite strong so it cant directly follow them.
As someone else said it might be that a spirit is just imitating what the sister did, to gain access to the house. Worse case scenario the sister's ill intent could be so intense that ill-intended spirits follow her will

I've been enjoying this arc, by and large, but I am ready for it to start wrapping up. What has me worried is that it sort of seems like it's not going to be wrapping up anytime soon. I could see this outstaying its welcome.
For me it already did a while ago.
Like, I might be wrong, but the previous stuff with the shitty yandere nr. 1 could honestly be cut in half and the story would be better off for it.
Hope she leaves the main cast or at least seriously changes personality wise after this is done.

Dad: I'm pretty sure that Dad could see ghosts in his life. Miko inherited the ability from him either on his death, or else she already had it, but it only activated after his death.

The horse thing is basically his friend/guard dog/guardian -- and Miko needs something like that since she has no attack powers of her own.

Bot of the sisters also have their own "guardian" spirits. They both echo the girl's desires, though in different ways. Michiru's seems to be largely protective of her, though obviously it's potential attack is a threat to anyone that crosses Michiru.

Alternatively, rather than guardians, they might be possessing spirits.

(Generally Japanese tends to see spirits like this as (at least originally) arising from humans' own dark emotions -- though after they arise from one human they might infect (possess) another human.)

So, likely we'll get some indication of where these spirits (sisters' and dad's) come from.

Also, possibly get some resolution about Dad. (Passing on his powers/knowledge?) And maybe see Miko get a guardian of her own.

One of the best chapters Tomokis done. Utterly bone chilling and unsettling. Miko Dad continues to be based, love that man.

man, these yandere sisters arc felt really long without any actual progress
There's something really subtle about the horror though. Now Michiru truly hates Hana, her sister knows where/who Miko is, and supposedly there's a ghost following the sisters... I think we're finally in the endgame of the arc. But if it goes on like 5+ more chapters, I'm there with you.

It was a nice chapter. Michiru obviously has developed unhealthy ways for getting close to other people she likes, but with a sister like that it's kinda understandable. Only thing i didn't understand was, when did Miko learn about Julia's powers? She wasn't that surprised about Julia telling her about her dead dad, which kinda surprised me.
Maybe it was a long while ago and i simply don't remember.
Anyway, thank you for the tl as always

Where have you been? The series has always been slow build. The Shrine arc starts at chapter 11 and doesn't finish until chapter 39. That's 29 chapters.

Michiru started at end of 39, and it's now ch 51 -- that's only 12 chapters (not counting 39, since she only appears at the end).

I didn't realize she never questioned it since it was an obvious question for outside spectators i.e. readers. Did she also never question why he looks exactly the same? That's definitely THE low-key hype feat of this series.

I think he had powers and was incredibly capable. I don't recall ever hearing hints about how/why he died, but this manga releases kinda slowly so I may have forgotten. If it was an incredibly 'ordinary' death, then of course there's more to it. If there was ever a lore bomb, it would probably be upon that reveal of all things.

Somehow I think the dad will be the plot device to finally find out why some ghost go crazy when you recognise their existence while some don't. Maybe next arc. Then after some touching moments with miko, he'll pass on.
For the horse ghost/guardian, maybe it's Mezu, one of the underworld guardian watching over her dad until he's satisfied enough to pass on. Which also may explain why the tentacle monster calmed down when the horse ghost licked it.

The lack of a consistent monthly update gives me this impression, not the writing itself, also that figure by the door might be a way to add some development? Michiru asked about Miko's dad, so what if that thing is Michiru's dad? And the one in her upper body is her mum?

Miko's known about Julia's powers since she first met her in chapter 12. Julia straight up told her that she was like Miko and could see ghosts when she introduced herself.

Honestly enjoying this arc with these sisters. I can understand why people feel it's going too long as the previous shrine arc had all the little arcs with it like Julia becoming a friend and the teacher having his own arc before the 3 protections were used up. With those arcs, it didn't feel like this current one that has it's own under currents with the dad and that sickle ghost. There definitely is more going on with why the dad hasn't moved on but that has felt more of it's own build up along side these sisters arc.

Julia told her that she could see them back in chapter 12 when she was introduced.
