@Amber_Clad there was a chapter where either Mieruko-chan or the old lady noticed that the aura killed smaller spirits, and they also saw it diminishing when she was hungry, and becoming a roaring flame after she eat. The spirits are also attracted and try to absorb her aura, and that's the reason why she is always hungry

Edit: it was in chapter 10: no one witnessed it, but it was made pretty clear.
