What was the original story going to be about before they “retconned it.” The author never even hinted at what caused the injury other than bullying at school, so how can it be a retcon? I can name plenty of retcons that undid major changed in reboots. Marvel Comics, for example, decided to reboot its universe, then decided that the reboot was a bad idea, and retconned it back to where it had been.

Very much depends on the type and concentration of acid used and how long it was on the skin before being washed off, though i don't know why they would be using such strong acid in a school environment (at least i think this happened while in school)

Your problem is located in the expression “the cover”, as if only one, the first, has been provided. The scar is not shown on the covers to volume 1 or 2; it's shown on the cover of the third volume. (Nor is the scar clearly visible as such in thumbnails for the cover to volume 3, which is why the whole business came as a surprise to multiple readers.)

By the way, a lie is a falsehood delivered with intent to deceive. Your blatant falsehood about the cover was not a lie, it was born of recklessness. And had the cover to volume 1 shown the scar, my failing to notice that would not have made my statement a lie. Don't be an ass about the issue of lying.

Lots of unscarred characters in manga cover one eye with bangs; it's a pictographic way of indicating that a character is withdrawn. For example, Tadokoro-san (in the comic by the same name) wears her hair like that.
