The backstory adds more depth to his character and pretty smart on the author to throw it in chapter two as justification/defense for him being "too soft". Still I do question overall if he didn't go from one extreme to the other. Like it's kinda a problem when you can't get one of your employees to do their job several days past schedule and another subordinate has to step in to keep them in line.
I like how past Konishikawa-san went on full-flex mode by assuming responsibility to a corporate issue blamed on him, fixing it with stellar results, then resigning immediately.
It's a shame that his fiancee left, but I see that Misato-san has a chance. He treats her well, and she lowkey adores him. They're a pair of dorks.
