Happiness is whatever the person decides is their happiness, whether they regret it later or not.

What's outdated is forcing people into marriages before they feel ready, winding up divorcing and wasting years of their lives over a relationship started from an obligation.
You can't break biology lol...

Also the human mind isn't designed to seek happiness anyway...

The idea to pursue a fleeting emotion is a stupid one.

Bro, you sound like you're never going to get married ever yourself.

Not to mention, depending on where you are, women have super high standards that the majority of men can't meet, and the few men who do meet those standards don't need to be tied down to a woman when they could practically buy/rent them for a night. There's also the divorce rates with women taking more than half of the belongings, including child custody and the support that goes with it, and today's men don't want to take those chances-myself included.
what the hell are you talking about lol

Was it mention before that Misato is 32? I thought she was in her late 20s but wow I actually like that she's not super young in most of these office romance stories. Thanks for the chapter.
Yeah I remember her being 26 or something. And him being 45. If that's right, was there a time skip? lol.

I suppose that mindset is why Japan's birthrate is so low, and probably why it's low elsewhere in the world, too. If young people come to believe they don't need marriage and children to be happy, they won't figure out they're unhappy until they're too old to conceive. It doesn't take a genius to figure out what comes next.
Historically, people are less likely to pursue relationships, and pursue it successfully, during economically hard times. Millenials and Gen Z across the world are the first generation to be poorer than their parents, unable to build generational future, wide-scale demoralization etc. etc.

And to further your point. The social structures/culture that has classically allowed the next gen to carry are no longer in practice and without a sufficient substitute in it's place. So those are other major factor.

This is true, but economic hard times should be pushing more people together, if for no other reason than to lower the total cost of living and increase living standards. If people aren't even getting married because they think the corporation is their source of happiness, there's no chance for the kids to happen in the first place.

Things are bad, but the entire value system has been flipped on its head. The job should not come before family, nor should the job be your source of happiness, the job may be something you take pride in and hold value in but it should be a secondary concern to building a family, even a childless one (which will often lead to at least a single child, anyway). This is likely an extremely large part of the reason why Japan has a birth rate of 1.1 and is going to start losing a million people per year without increased immigration, which is going to make the economic situation even worse for a long time because the young will have a higher financial (tax or otherwise) burden placed upon them to care for the elderly.
