It manages to be dramatic without pointless drama, and romantic without being heavy-handed. I really enjoyed the two main characters and their relationship, and the ending was both satisfying and reasonable. The writing also manages to be subtle without being overly cryptic; a pet-peeve I have with other romance titles trying too hard to be smart. The characters mistake each other's intentions and feelings, but talk amongst themselves and adjust their positions and emotions accordingly. Very well done. The length is just perfect, too. I want more, but know that the series accomplished what it was meant to do. Well worth a read.
