Imagine making a world in which a knight is higher on the pecking order than a duke's daughter. In real life Sarena's parents would be powerful enough to destroy anyone's life with the only exceptions being the Royal Family and other duchal families.

Anyway, back to the story. Little sister and princes continue their commitment to make this story dumber every time they are on page.

Thank you for the translation. It feels like the author has decided that the best way to make their character seem intelligent is to drop the IQ of her enemies to room temperature. First the knight, and now this behaviour from that dude in front of royalty and the kid's own fiancee. Wew.

No no, she's saying that because the knight serves directly under the royal family -- even though she herself is a noble -- it would be akin to going against the king and queen's authority; so the idea of her deliberately getting rid of "her" Knights, which again are on loan due to her dubious status as a fiancee, is simply a ludicrous accusation. You should already know that she didn't have a direct hand in his dishonorable discharge, so there's no point in insisting that she did that anyway.

She could definitely get rid of him through more direct means if he were a more ordinary knight, but she isn't motivated by malice.

It doesn't matter. The implication is that she couldn't do it which is fucking stupid because of her peerage. Even if that knight was a noble, the fact he is "just a knight" means he is no importance. A duke's daughter accusing him of anything would have meant death for him. Why? Because a dukedom isn't just some fancy title, they are basically the reason a king can enforce his authority. No punny knight/noble is worth angering your de-facto co-rulers. The absurd power duchal houses had is the reason why so many of these villainess stories are centered around a duke daughter.

Basically, every single action the knight took was pretty much suicidal regardless of who put him at Sarena's house. Now, Sarena being reasonable and not demanding his head on a silver plate is absolutely in-character and expected of a lady of her station, though. A better version of this would have been Sarena explaining to her idiot sister that she's too high on the pecking order to bother fucking over some no-name knight with delusions of grandeur.

I think the implication is, everyone assumes the duke's actual daughter is timid to be overtaken by the commoner so they're encouraged to trample on her; I would like to remind you this is a manga, written by Japanese people who have little to no knowledge of European nobility of the middle ages. Not to mention this being a fiction.

So basically, depending on the setting, anything is possible, and in this case clearly the knight was dumb

Rosemary accused Serena for kicking out her knight.
Serena says she doesn't have the authority to do so.
It's those "close enough but not really answering the question" thing.

About Serena, when arguing, she tend to appeal to customs rather than appeal to authority (like typical cardboard villain) or justice/emotion (like typical heroine).
Her status as duke's daughter protect her from opponents trying to intimidate her with status, but her arguments are built on the fact that she doesn't break their law, and she always follow proper conduct (at least in public). Yes, whipping her servant seems to be proper in their society, and she did mention there are place with worse treatment.

In this one, a duke has no right to give direct order to the knights corp (at least not directly). The royal knights are under the king and answer to the king.
The proper way is for the duke to escalate the matter to the king.
And no, not even the princes has a word in this. It's omitted in previous chapter, but the knight captain said the authority lies in their organization and the king. If the prince disagree and want to interfere, he better think again if that will be abuse of power, which is much more serious when done by member of royal family.

Although in practice, when a duke "asks politely", the knights corp would need to decide if they think it's worth the risk to stand their ground (then deal with the political harassment, or fight it in front of the king), or just cede to the demand and be done with it.

Anyway, her explanation is right, she doesn't have the right to make that decision.
Her answer to Rosemary is just stating a matter of fact that doesn't bother her a bit, rather than sounding like she's trying to protect her pride.

And she cynically point out Rosemary, should have understand that much.
Rosemary is engaged to a prince, so she will need to understand how things are done. For example, she couldn't just be selfish and demand such things to the knights order, because if someone pointed that's not how it works, the society will not just call her stupid, but it will also taint her husband's reputation. Or the other way around, when a high ranked noble overstepped their authority, she should know to step in and interfere, or to at least not take their side, again, to not embarrass herself and her husband.

Maybe the big batch of consequences I've been waiting to see for Rosemary has actually arrived, and his name is Einrich. If he's a temperamental playboy and stereotypical bad boy then yes, Rosemary can keep him. She can be his dumb spoiled wife while he goes out to cheat on her every night with a different woman while angry the he can't have Serena for himself.

Not sure how to feel about Evan, but I like that he isn't stupid. He's one of the few people with intelligence in this manga. Given that Tigur is the closest thing to "childhood friend" for Serena, if this were a male-oriented romance Tigur would lose for sure, but I'm not so familiar with tropes on the other side of the fence. Maybe childhood friends have better chances in female-oriented romances? He did have much more screentime than Evan so far.
