@Imperfectinfinity Sure, but it was for her own good. She was the one to gain the most benefits from this whole incident. Even if she was to hit the road one day, she would still have needed to get rid of the brainwashing plus the peace of mind she now has. Second merely needs her in a perfect condition, but how could being in a perfect condition not be beneficial for Yukari herself as well?

So convoluted lol

Not sure I get the “break free from the slavery curse” part, sounds like a bunch of random words tied together and called a loophole. Well whatever moving on, blacksmith obtained I guess

@Add1152000 This is better explained in the novel and I'm guessing they do it next chapter, but

the headbutt is the key. It was actually a bug in the game the world is based on. The 'slave/non-combat' status was only really used for one particular NPC escort mission in the game, and an easy way to pass it was to cause the NPC to accidentally deal minor damage to the player character (owner), thus entering combat mode and voiding the slave status. Might have to be specifically via headbutt instead of anything accidental, but I don't quite remember.

does it completely 'break it'? I mean sure, the 'slave' enters combat mode, but what after the battle? Or does he stay in 'combat mode' since he shouldn't even enter so it's not programmed to leave it either?

Yes, it just completely breaks. The devs never bothered to fix the bug because basically the entire slavery system was just to make a few early-game escort missions a little more difficult.

Tf is the bs he's spouting? She made her an assassin because she loved her? How many screws does he have loose?

@RiseOne: This is the only explanation i could come up with.

Training or Maintaining of Assassins by Noble's isn't that odd and almost everyone did it (even religious or government organizations do it), both for good and bad work. And turning an Orphan into a Assassin is probably the best method, since Orphan normally don't have any connections, plus it gives them a job to do (especially if the Orphan is a girl), because there aren't that many job options if you consider the era setting of the plot. Also, probably that Elf girl is more suited for these kind of dexterity related work (like MC is trying to get her to be a blacksmith, while that Old Lady only knew about using her as an Assassin to let take advantage of her base skills).

What matters here is why did she put a Brainwashing term of, "not trusting the new master", on that Elf girl.
That just feels odd, because what's the use of putting brainwashing term like that on a Assassins, even though the user already knew that they were going to die because of the secret that even her Assassin knew about.

Its probably so that, because of the Brainwashing, Elf girl won't be able to divulge any of the information she knew about (even after heavy torture), including the secrets both good and bad which could have worked in favor of the people who got that Old Lady killed. It could only be seen as an act of saving and protect that Elf girl's life, because if that Old Lady was actually ruthless and evil, she could have probably commanded the Elf girl to kill herself using her Brainwashing, which she didn't. And its possible that the Noble who got that Old Lady killed is still keeping the Elf alive because he believes that she knows something which could be useful for him, but can't get it out because of the Brainwashing (so just waiting for a chance until the Brainwashing gets removed).

There's an explanation for the particulars of the duchess's brainwashing somewhat later in the story.

She should be named Sherry. And now they need a giant bathtub which needs several refills of magical hot water, and then they need a dog woman named Roxanne to join in the bath.

It breaks the slavery magic due to a bug in the game the world is based on. I explained it in a post below, but one thing I kinda feel the manga doesn't do well in some cases is properly foreshadowing that Second knows things about the world lore (e.g. the duchess) and hidden game mechanics.
