Seems rather consistent to me? He himself views himself as incompetent because of the abuse he received from the guild and the bad noble, while those he’s friends(the lady with the sentient bear, the royal girls, and shop keeps) with see him as this incredible mage. Now this all goes out the window if I’m misremembering the past chapters, also forgive me for not remembering the names of the characters, I read too many books for my own good lmao
