Well, the setup of the story requires that he be useless for a few years, so we've just gotten past that now. I assume this wyvern's gonna be the first thing he kills that starts the actual manga vs just being prologue.

CF was hardcore into him even before the whole blessing thing; even after getting her own OP gift, she wanted to party up with him regardless of what he walked away with. Now that she perceives such an enormous gulf between their capabilities, something akin to a motherly instinct is reinforcing her existing feelings for him. And don't ever forget the blessingcurse the goddess granted him for saving her when it comes to his ability to pull.
