I love this manga and I'm left with a sad and empty feeling knowing that there will be no more to this story. I'm trying to rationalize the ending, so I'm commenting to help fill my void and perhaps provide some insight to others. Feel free to agree/disagree, add onto, etc.

How I interpreted this story is that a mentally exhausted FMC was alone in her struggles and one day found someone (MC) going through the same struggle.
As a means to help both parties, she initiated her advances (not romantically) to help a kindred spirit along with helping herself, by breaking her mother's heavy expectations of being a "good girl". What was meant to be a rebellious act orchestrated by the FMC, turned into a romance due to the support and understanding both the FMC and MC were able to provide for each other.

The ending paralleled how they first met in the cafe. What first started off with two exhausted individuals wearing the same mask meeting at the cafe, ends with the same two returning but as individuals that have learned to live for themselves as well as for others. Unfortunately, to meet both criteria, both parties have to live their lives separately.

The MC proposal to "stay together in the future" can be a hopeful sign for people looking for a happy ending (me). As much as the MC and FMC cherish each other, both parties value their family just as much. Indulging in their relationship now would be selfish and I think both parties understand that they first need to allow their families sometime to realize that their relationship is genuine.
My hope is that they'll reconvene once FMC is an adult and financially independent.
Hopefully, by then, the MC's daughter 😠would learn to consider her father's happiness and wellbeing as well.

I’m not surprised if this got sacked. And it certainly felt like it, considering the abrupt ending.

Like I said many times, relationship like this tend to only be acceptable in porn. Gal gohan to me, is the only one so far that was done right. Joshikousei to Seishokusha-san is another that I thought is done well, although it’s not focused on romance (so far). I recommend that series if you’re looking for one.

ONE chapter left, and you just had to go and snipe it after all the hard work Daphie put on this series for half a year. Shame on you.

LOL nope, not reading some trash mentality idiots 'work' by jumping many chapters.

If it takes a long time for someone to pick up where it's been left off then so be it. So do us a favor and stop wasting interweb bytes.

Lol, So many people that can't handle an ending like this..

This was logically and coherent, he is gonna wait for her and she too, their only interactions are gonna be at the cafe and while heading home (well to the train station to be precise), both will try to fix their relationships (with the mother of her and the daughter of him) and focus so that one day their romance is accepted.

Is a down to earth ending (and waaaaaaay more realistic than that crappy domekano), is open?, Maybe, because is clear their relationship continue, but kisaragi is young, she can forget their love, also the main character could also fin someone else, that's the "kinda" open stuff.

But that ambiguity make it great, they both continue a subtle relationship until they can show their feelings fully to everyone, but if time make them change they might be strong to handle that (as well as all the hardships both are currently having).

A happy couple ending would be dumb as fuck, and a broken completely won't be coherent with what the author show, this ending is good because is fitting, reality is like that, people keeping secrets cause society won't accept them.

It would be naive to think a happy ending for both would be good... That would be putting waaaay more problems to their current lives.

This was a 9/10 ending, I hate open endings when is clearly forced, now is not that, dunno what people expected, maybe they wanted a morbid ending so they could hate koto and the main character or something around that but the mangaka was clearly more intelligent than that...

For one I'm happy this didn't end like domekano, that shit was beyond crap.

I stopped a few pages in. No disrespect but the translation was really hard to make sense out of. I will wait for Princess Daphie's version, she worked very hard to bring this series to us.

@relic626 @PedroSimao002 @musicfreak12 @lastKANAshimi @Akiii @kurosawadai1 @MrGoodday @MyLifeIsTwilight @starlightcitypro thanks for saying something about this. i've been a bit disappointed by this random chapter posting, because i feel like i have been doing a good job, so at least knowing it's appreciated, it makes me feel better. and you can be sure i'll be posting the usual translation the minute the publisher puts it out publicly, which should be next Wednesday!

@Jackwyvern while i agree with you that Gal Gohan is great (it's one of my 2 favorites!!!) i also think this here manga was consistent in its style. it would've been totally out of character to come out and give us a sudden happy ending. it's a more realistic, full of nuances and uncertainty, that we're getting. i dunno, i think it fits well! another age-gap manga i loved but is not making unaniminity is Omaera Zenin Mendokusai! and its ending sure isn't its strong point. i loved the manga to bits, but was a bit disappointed by its ending. here with Musume no Tomodachi, i don't feel such disappointment.

@themoobz i knew that song, of course, but had never seen its videoclip, OMG, the 80s... the hairstyles... so much volume, loll

@MonsieurQuack i'm not 100% sure of what you're saying, but if you're talking about my updates, don't worry, it's coming. the previous chapter had only been posted after all! i'm just following the publisher's schedule.

@soragranda i think about the same thing about this ending. in a word, it's beautiful.

@princess_daphie Heh, I'll blame the Festive Drinking pt.2 - just want to know that I'll be quite happy waiting for your quality releases and not skipping straight to the end.

A meek ending for a fairly meek story, even with the central premise being very heavy, the way it was written makes it come off as just childish...especially once it’s obvious the author can’t make drama in a way that feels organic.
It didn’t need to involve every other character having irrational reactions for the drama to be compelling, it just makes most of the cast come off as annoying.

Also, thank you Daphie for TLing this, shame this guy sniped the ending.

This manga became too different from what I expected. I stuck with it anyways just to see where it goes.

Can't say it's great. I think the father was completely in the wrong to abandon his daughter for her friend.

The begining made me think it was about a father rekindling his relationship with his daughter.

Boy was I wrong.
