Idk how the system works in Japan but here in the US, usually when a teacher gets involved with a student they’re never allowed to work again as a teacher. Anyways Tanuki will probably see through his lies & the fact that he’s trying to use him. Thanks for the translations.
Not sure if entirely true but in Japan, some individuals get away with it by claiming defamation and can basically sue victims into silence.

If it's from 5 years ago, and he's working at what's basically a lower tier school, the equivalent of HR might not have checked into his background at all.

Truth is not necessarily a defense against libel and slander in Japan.

Defamation Laws in Japan

Under Article 230-1 of the Criminal Code of Japan:

“(1) A person who defames another by alleging facts in public shall, regardless of whether such facts are true or false, be punished by imprisonment with or without work for not more than three (3) years or a fine of not more than 500,000 yen.”

If the act relates to matters of public interest and has been conducted solely for the benefit of the public, the truth or falsity of the alleged facts shall be examined, and punishment shall not be imposed if they are proven to be true. (See Article 230-2 of the Criminal Code). Article 32 of the Criminal Code provides for the Statute of Limitations for filing a criminal action for defamation which shall prescribe in ten (10) years.

That's how things should go, yeah. Revoking the teacher's license and making sure that he never gets to work with minors ever again, that's the procedure pretty much everywhere.

In practice, though? Schools actually have an incentive to cover stuff like this up. Scandals about teachers molesting students reflect poorly on the school as a whole, because people will invariably start asking "Hey, how much did other teachers know? How much did the principal know?".

So half the time, schools will just quietly get rid of the teacher instead. Transfer him out, or push him to resign.

Another thing that happens is that, when an offending teacher applies to a different school in a different town, schools don't always do a proper background check. Or the teacher just signs up for a non-teacher job that has him deal with minors, like youth care.

The rules are there, but so are the loopholes...
