Man, being Kaoru is pain. I'm confused as a reader, no idea how would a 17-year old put in that situation do. She made some bad calls, but the angst is palpable.
I really, honestly can't get a read on what Rin's aiming for. One moment she seems serious, and another like it's just all a plaything for her to not feel lonely or bored. The fact she is loaded and doesn't really have to care about anything, while other main characters have to struggle and can't afford to make bold moves doesn't help the impression she gives either.
Still, no idea why MC, being a smart guy, didn't immediately tell authorities about what she told him. I would be meeting with the teacher, school psychologist, principal, her parents/guardian (by phone if needed), and probably police within an hour of leaving her at a hospital. She is a danger to herself and others - obviously unstable. Her blackmail holds no real power, the second he informs appropriate people of it. But I guess we wouldn't have the story if he did :shrug:
This is a really uncomfortable, yet engrossing read.

He didn't do any of those things because he is weak and prefers not to make a fuss. Same way how he said nothing about the bullying and participated instead just to be one with the group. He is too scared going against the suicide girl in a hospital bed who he told to die might look bad, him saying what he said to her will go public with teachers and police, he can't pretend he didn't tell her to die and then she jumped right afterwards. Everyone would know he is that guy.

fair point, but instead of suffering a minor hit to his reputation, that would fizzle out within a month (since he doesn't have psychic powers, he is not responsible for her doing anything) he is now in a position of having to do everything she wants, or she will possibly ruin his whole life (because suicide letter of a dead girl holds way more power than a few school kids' words).
That is not a trade a smart, or even just result-oriented person would make, ever. Maybe he wouldn't be able to decide on the spot, but with 2 weeks of her being in the hospital, he would have time to cool off and figure it out. Right now, he is taking way more risk to his future, even following her, than if he were to ask for help. She is obviously unstable and there is no guarantee that she won't try to kill herself under the smallest pretense or meddle in a different way. It's like a 100% chance of taking 10dmg vs a 50% chance of taking 1000dmg, with no benefit to him to balance the risk.
But, again, that's just something readers have to accept to get the story.
