WHAT A CINEMA
Guess his weapon must be common since he wasn't recognised by it.
Deception check success!
Went to take a look at the ln and Walm looks much older in it.
Considering the world in this series is around... 14th century, then I think Halberd was pretty common soldier equipment. Honestly my most favorite medieval weapon.fun fact: the weapon he is holding is a halberd, if I'm not mistaken. So yes, pretty common!

Eh, I look at it more like a war-centered series, which is not really wrong. Still peak tho. This is like Berserk for 15 years old who aren't unaware of their edgy self
They probs tortured the soldiers to get info at first, but kept torturing for pleasureJust to be fair, I can see how the mangaka is trying to portray both sides. The Highserk are a belligerent state, war is their business so they have "standards", which can be seen when Walm's captain stopped some new recruits from raping and pillaging since that "ain't cool", they are so good at that that the other side had to form an alliance to be able to hold out.
The other side of the fight aren't used to war and the only reason they are still holding out is because of sheer numbers and thanks to the few Hero level characters they have, and after finally having a victory after being curbstomped so far they let their emotions loose on the enemy soldiers, which helps morale by boosting camaraderie and dehumanizing the enemy, it just so happens that in this case the cons are going to outweigh the pros of doing that.
Poleaxe and spear were common frontline weapon. granted the Halberd were a rare one but it was seen in battle. just got phased out quickly as it is introduced tho.Guess his weapon must be common since he wasn't recognised by it.

Highserk is retaliating, sure they are war hungry mfs, I mean who wouldn't if the chance to expand is given on a silver platter(myriad weakened) but they never were the aggressor. This series sure is something. At the same time that, Highserk is in the wrong since it's a war of conquest they started (at least as far as I remember) going out of your way to massacre everyone and desecrate the corpses of the foot soldiers that have no say in how the country moves is something that isn't exactly going to earn you any friends.
Oh well, as they say, there are no "good guys" in a war.
Welm is a harrasing backlane to let his team push. what a ladHe made the most tactically sound move even if it is high-risk. His impromptu hostage situation has essentially completely negated the enemy heroes because they're now forced to keep their attention on him while the highserk soldiers just go ham without having to deal with the BS heroes.
It was the Billhook that inspired those rather than the Halberd itself perse, as the Bill were already being commonly used in agriculture by peasants much earlier. The Halberd were already deemed unnecessary by the time it circulated in armies. This is why they were relegated to Royal Guards as they were just laying around in the armory collecting dust(plus they were hella expensive for a bigger poleaxe).Another fun fact:
City guards apparently use halberds as a way to combat fires, by using them to help ventilate fires (poking holes in the roof), gain access to fires (breaking down doors/walls), and assist in containing fires (demolish nearby flammable houses)
It is said that the practicality of the halberd gave inspiration to modern firefighting equipment (pike pole, halligan bar) to accomplish such similar roles
Sidenote: it was a bit difficult to find more than 2 sources that say thisand i'm lazy, so do take it with a grain of salt
Interesting, and honestly it does make sense! It was the Billhook that inspired those rather than the Halberd itself perse, as the Bill were already being commonly used in agriculture by peasants much earlier. Fun Fact: the reason why Halberd were out phased easily was because there were already better equipment for their role, which was Zweihanders. They have a long reach, cuts pikes and spears in wider range, can cut, can poke, and more offensive capabilities without sacrificing space. They were the better Halberd technically speaking.
