Ugh. That cursed sword is seriously a pain in the ass. A hero complex is a perfect fit for it. It has no awareness of the damage and consequences it causes by trying to "save" people (the wrong way. They should have just turned in the evidence without giving their name and stopped getting involved with Silk anymore), and to top it off no care for it user's well being. It's just a bucket of trouble and hypocrisy. Half assed heroics for sake of saying you've "saved somehow" (despite knowing nothing) only makes things worse for all parties involved (as seen here). There's really nothing wrong with the MC having a healthy level of self-preservation, being selfish, and wanting a comfortable lifestyle (pretty much everyone does and that's how society functions). You can't condemn people for their thoughts or the reasons behind their actions (that'd be insane). A person that act nice, but is actually thinking of themself... Is a pretty standard person and isn't really doing anything wrong. A self claimed "hero" that's just fulfilling a half assed hero complex and doesn't actually have any awareness and doesn't care about the damage or conseques or even physical harm they cause to others, is an actual danger to society. I really hope that by the end of the sword gets what it deserves (hopefully smashed to pieces), and we don't get some bullshit like the perfectly okay Mc needing to learn how to be a genuine "good guy". Because somehow we can't just judge people's actions, but also should judge people's thoughts and conform those to standards we like too.
