Yea, for what it was it's worked out well enough. It was always unlikely that it'd last beyond the trip. (Which isn't even over yet.)
What I'm wondering is more "why did he only get one" - was it to share (like he said) or was it because he didn't want to spend so much money on it? The former might mean he wants to try the relationship thing out and it might last at least a little while, the second means he's just cutting his losses because he too intends it to end pretty much during the ride home.
