Whoa another update, thanks. Also, I notice that the translation note have a white background now instead the black one. It took me a while to make my eyes adapted the new change, as always the translation note are thing that I always looked forward in the end of each new chapter from Paul.

@AbuHajaar

He met her in the Mountains of South East Asia. Doesn't mean she was born there. Could of been taken in or had also discovered them and decided to live with the people there.

Or she could just be an albino asian.

@AbuHajaar skin color happened because climate you know, i know few sea (without chinese or caucasian genetics) that happened to be light skinned. Still they tan easily so if they move to a place with four season and not going outside much, it's normal for them to have light skin.

True people tend to fear what they don't know and what they don't understand BUT that doesn't give anybody liberty to be judgemental & outright rude because it just shows how "limited" their understanding is...just like the old lady..

Yes, by creating a idealized, unrealistical and apparently retarded character I somehow doubt true South-eastern asian women would find very flattering.
If this is grilling then I'm a banana.
If you want to read a manga that deals with this set of problems* in a more realistical and mature way
I recommend Itoshi no Irene,
a much more satisfying read. I'm planning to scanlate it in the future.
(warning: ignore the embarassing Mangaupdates description)

I love the translator so much. I can feel that he/she put in so much effort and attention into the manga. Thank you for translating this amazing manga, I was a little shy away by the supernatural-ish aspect of the manga at first but I love it for its meaning.

yeah, a bit disheartening how the mother seems so silly. Is kinda of paradoxal trying to break a stigma by reinforcing it.

the story is still great tho

This chapter hit me pretty hard. I’m mixed, living in the US with a white father and a SEA mother. She’s lived in the US now for almost half her but still speaks in broken English and does things that other people would consider “weird” because of her culture. (One example is she does some of her food preparation while sitting on the kitchen floor, though the food obviously never goes directly on the floor.) It’s not as bad as it used to be, but there are times when I can tell that a person she’s talking to (like a sales clerk or a receptionist) is annoyed that she isn’t “speaking properly,” and thus think she’s an idiot. The translator hit the nail on the head when they said broken speech is hard to translate without making someone look less smart than they may be. Hearing broken speech in real life causes that exact reaction, from my experience at least.

But it’s no wonder her spoken English doesn’t improve when the community that does “speak properly” thinks she’s too stupid to do better. So she only speaks English with her family at home, who know what she means without it being “proper.” The mom in this story might be going through a similar situation, which breaks my heart a little.

I’m now remembering this is a story where the mom character also has magic plants and such, so I may be making things more serious than I need to haha

This chapter has really hit me with my thinking of history and society. How many of those killed, pushed, and outcasted from those with different cultures/religions/sexuality or just lifestyle that the "normal" person has.... It saddens me. This has never changed all through history.

"If you want to read a manga I found to be better than this one, I recommend X *links to a series on MangaUpdates that says no one's even started scanlating it and it's not licensed in English*"
