After rereading the first couple chapters, it also highlights the difference between a good wartime leader and a good peacetime leader. The father is excellent at wartime but absolutely sucks at peacetime. Van is more rounded- good at wartime but excellent during peace.I like how this father vs son "conflict" develops into issues of:
- traditions
- perceived power (via traditions and magics)
- tactics (where you apply your tactics on)
- technological (exploding orbs vs balistea etc)
It's like this paradigm shift that happened between old wars and WW1, and another that happened between WW1 and WW2
After having his King and mentor flay him with his deficiencies in managing his house and family, I doubt the father can afford to be dismissive of the son who literally saved the lives of him and what remained of his men.Son Vs Father. i sure hope that he will not dismiss him.. again.
We have seen how Van works on desk work while Espada mentored him in few chapters back in the manga. He was studying and working at the same time, pretty much on-job- training. That's why we kept seeing him running away from Espada as he doesn't want to be on the desk all day. Also, bear in mind, that Van is optimistic (title call), so there is no need to worry about him and the territory. People trusted him so much too. About bad pricing, well, Van was making too humble of himself that he doesn't really know how to price it properly. Don't worry, Espada may have something in his mind.To be honest, Van is kind of a little shit who deserves at least a little bit of a hard time from the people around him.
...But not this much. Like, he fucked up with that pricing because he didn't consider how only he can make the bolts and thus his own free time was part of the material costs, and so being overworked supplying those is kinda just desserts.
But surely that level of strenuous activity for a 9-year-old would be actively detrimental to his development? And studying is good, of course, but when is he supposed to be doing actual lord work at that point?
It's implied that Espada is pushing Van so hard because he's a genius who picks things up incredibly fast and this is his personal project to take advantage of that to turn him into a veritable sage. Which, really, is just another unwanted one-sided responsibility dumped on him.
No little. They rushed last 4 eps skipping many things for no reason (probably wanted to end anime on war ending, while they can keep all detail and ended it on Scudett retaking - which concludes father-son problems)little details missed because of the budget
