wow, that's a whole lot of character development in one chapter from multiple people.
I respect his resolve, honestly. It's easy to just wash one's hands of an abuser, and I wouldn't fault him for doing so.
But he's staying true to his ideals and his character in still wanting to try and make things right, or at least get closure. It's more mature than I think I would be in his situation, though I'd like to think I could be as upright as he's being.
Ruby I suspect will find redemption, though, and it's one of the few times I've wanted that of her specific archetype of character. Given she'll likely have a hand in saving at least some of the monsters from whatever calamity just befell their village, and with the MC on the way - I have hopes that this will resolve with brighter days ahead for all of them.
