Woah... what a horrid and illogical story progression. Take down an enemy general and get sentenced to death by your own country. Then make a deal to work under the big bad while cutting ties with your family and friends.

Let's destroy character development and go back to being a broody, unlikeable MC.
What did you expect? When dealing with politicians and politics, you need to expect the worst and the most illogical bs possible to happen and resign your life to it.
That's why, when politicians are around, always treat them with contempt and never give them a chance to talk. That's the common knowledge, for politicians were, are, and will always be worse than trash.

I think those months where the chapter release were really slow made a lot of you guys forget that harold's main goal is to follow the main story line while only changing enough to save his life; he was always going to join the psycho doctor cuz thats how it originally goes. If things go awry, the world ends.
That said, while the events that happen make sense to me, it was definitely very fast

Justus was definitely the one who orchestrated it all

Thanks for the new chapter!

He finally entered the game story period. With that butterfly effect he created, the hero party probably is already created but with a focus to rescue him one way or another.
I do wish he was also able to convert the main antagonist (which is the 'mad scientist'), that would've been fun

Was Series axed or some shit ?..

Last and current chapter lost HEAVILY in quality and story is now just rushing shit without any further explanation or build up.. its really just throwing events around.

Why bother trying to make Harold more likeable in recent chapters and show his change of heart to just simple crush all progress again basically voiding any and all character development that was made ô_o

He just went to work with the MAIN Villain for 5 years, just because really 😐
It's more that the pacing was very weak for explaining what exactly happened.

My theory is that there is no butterfly effect. That the story he changed and story he remembers are one and the same. Just the game he played most likely narrated from the common perspective, and he drew a lot of assumptions

He says, Erica not once in the game said anything bad about Harold, only looked with sad eyes. He assumed it was because how nice of a person she was. But can we really say that now that we know about her? Her actions described in the game change quite a lot of we go by what we know

I feel this was just to push the story forward really fast, especially considering that the raws are up to... what... chapter 65 or something?

That being said, if it was axed or is on the path to cancellation, the reason wouldn't be financially driven. This manga is doing more than enough, in fact, it's doing better than a lot of other low-grade isekais.

They gave a rather good explanation for it in the WN. Rather than the story, it's the weak pace of the story, it got mangled up because the mangaka tried to finish the arc as fast he could.

To explain with knowledge of the webnovel: Pretty much the entire set of trials was a setup from the start, with Justus manipulating things to ensure the Death Penalty, then basically going up to Harold and saying "So hey, join me and I'll make the charges disappear, otherwise you're going to die."

so we spent a lot of time with the relationship between mc and erica only to annul the engagement and timeskip 5 years in... six pages? what the fuck?

I don't think annuling the engagement's that weird. The whole series has Harold saying things he doesn't mean (because of Haroldness) that are meant with good intention, and this is probably just the same thing. He was just sentenced as a spy with the potential of execution looming over him, and his sentence was already likely to be postponed by Justus anyway, without the Sumeragis ' intervention, so they were getting themselves unnecessarily involved in the situation.

Annulling the engagement is just a way to distance himself from them, to avoid getting them caught up in the plotting bullshit surrounding him, I really doubt that's the end of Erica as a love interest. It's a little sad to see the progress get slightly pushed back, but with the kinda series this is (villain character the world's out to destroy), that kind of "progress + setback" flow's pretty expected.

It's better on the web novel, where you can read Harold's inner monologue.

1- first, he tried to avoid the "death flag" of being used and betrayed by Justus.

2- he got "friendly" with the 3 soldiers (and Cody), but remember that they would die.

3- Cody would blame himself, leave the order, and Vincent (captain/best friend) would feel sad and be manipulated by Justus.

4- Harold decides to sacrifice himself by starting the attack and fight alone, saving the soldiers and avoiding all the above.

5- he ends up being targeted by Justus and in the same position he wanted to avoid (Justus' tool).

6- if the "game's story" is going to start and will be almost the same (he believes), at least, he wants it to be the same (more predictable).

7- he needs the "hero" to form the party, and Erica joins them as the "healer" because she hates Harold (and he wrongly believes she hates him now).

8- the manga could make an effort in showing Justus' influence (he forced the death penalty and the "convenient" alternative).
