It's true, you have to pay for disposal of big size garbage. That's why abandoned cheap bikes are common sight in Japan.

@tuffymon Yeah, that bike looked like a truck drove over it.

@Qelix Indeed. There are the electric bikes, which will be quite expensive by default. And then the murderous carbon fiber bikes, which can be very expensive, yet are only supposed to be used for a couple of years because they can suddenly shatter under you otherwise.

His budget's REALLY small for a decent mountain bike. Mine cost about 50k yen after converting, but that's taking local prices into consideration... in Japan it'd have probably costed less.

Then again buying a mountain bike as her first one was probably overzealous. Surprised he didn't have one of his own, too, considering he lives in the countryside.

@LunaDW could have brought the bike to a scrap yard and got a couple bucks. Though depending on your distance to your closest scrap yard may make it less worth it but I doubt it would cost you 32 bucks in gas

@Hounder
There are some things money can't buy: for everything else... 😁

@Oeconomist given the average OPness of isekaied characters, I'd say either a dragon or an autobot with the ability to transform into whichever vehicle it wants

WTF? I've got a real de-juicer made in the USSR still lying around here. It's made in the 70s (I guess) and it is still working. (And damn, that thing is vicious btw. Shreds carrots like a champ and gets nearly all juice out of it. The leftovers are borderline damp. But your hands will hurt, because of the vibrations, that powerful electric motor causes.) That's quality. That's economically good for me and ecologically good for the environment. And I'm a satisfied owner. Fuck those bikes.

Another example of the Law of Unacknowledged Consequences, which is often still called “the Law of Unintended Consequences”.

@Qelix I haven't got a clue about what you are trying to say with your carrot de-juicers. It's a commonly known fact that carbon fiber bikes, when growing a bit older, can shatter suddenly. That's why I will never buy one. You can see easily enough if a metal bike is accumulating fatigue, which is very rare, though, even with aluminium, but unless something has changed about carbon fiber components, you will most likely only know when it's too late. Of course there are myriad people driving them, so they aren't a total disaster by far, but I like to stick to my bikes for a good long while. I'm also not a fan of throwing anything away just to be sure.

@Kaarme: I went a bit offroad into the wilderness of nonsense and anger there, as I was saddened by the fact you presented. What I wanted to say in my rant is, that that de-juicer was rather cheap and is build to last for eternity. Maybe I'm a bit ignorant about the awesomeness of carbon fiber frames for bicycles, but why should you pay a few thousand bucks for a carbon fiber bikeframe, if it will break down earlier than a much cheaper alternative product, without any real downsides aside from a slightly higher weight? (Especially when its silent breakdown is also endangering your life.) Isn't getting yourself into shape also a goal, when biking? I don't see how a slightly heavier frame is hurting that goal.

I guess some people just have too much money at their hands. But thank God they are at least spending it, even if it is for nonsense.
