Its not density, he knows Yukishio likes him, he's got basically no self-worth. His ex was always beating him down and they were dating for a while, so it's hard not to internalize that abuse. He's only just now freed himself from that, and though it's annoying from a Romcom perspective for him to just not date the girl who loves him, psychologically he's got a lot of hangups he needs to work out.
