Neat, we finally get to meet Reiya's friend/classmate who was teased all the way back in chapter 10 during the Sports Festival. You can tell it was Yukimura bc they have the same hair highlights.
yep, we got her there, Cfriend from a side character are stronger
also she was reading his mind easily and got flustered when she noticed him reading too much into it.
blondie is doomed hahaha.

Why do I feel like his brother has a crush on her but was rejected or is afraid to confess. Either way Blondie might consider her competition. FMC might consider her competition as well since she understands our MC without him needing to say anything. Thanks for the chapter!!!
it would be interesting, specially since besides him being a slob at home, he's mr perfect, so him having the same problem as his brother with romance would be a great way to get them closer and solve one of MC's own problems.

Honestly, I’d prefer if they don’t date and just stay as friends. Her current relationship with the older brother sends a message to Youta that just because someone is special to someone doesn’t mean they are romantically in love. You can have a close and special relationship with someone without having any thoughts of dating them.
It adds to the conflict and is generally an important message to have. So having them get together undermines the message of it and the conflict so far. Plus, I just think it would be a lame and lazy thing to do.
damn...this is really legit writing here.still they dont have the guts to make the mc date somebody else.

She acts in such a way that I started thinking she and older bro were actually university students :kek:
And then my brain finally acknowledged the "classmates" part and reminded me that older bro is still a high school student :kek:
I like her. Honestly, I was expecting her to be another older bro stan, so I'm happy she treats him like a normal human and doesn't take advantage of lil bro.

The chapter was nice and I think Yukimura-senpai will be a great character. I see her easily becoming friends with Houjou and teaming-up to tease both brothers. :glee::hearts::hearts::hearts:
Thank you for the translation! :hearts:

Alright here's my tinfoil hat theory. If Yukimura actually does like big bro she's keeping the childhood friend status quo because she doesn't want to hurt big bro by becoming another mosquito buzzing around him trying to get their suck on. Since they've been friends for so long I'm sure she's seen firsthand the way things have escalated with hundreds of girls with shallow interest flocking around him and stressing him out all the time. Right now she has a unique (for now) place in his life as the one girl who isn't trying to chase after him that he can be himself around and she might be afraid to upset that, afraid that if she does let herself see him as a romantic interest then she'd be betraying him in some way because then their dynamic would HAVE to change and he'd lose the only girl in his life who isn't trying to target him. Obviously the context is completely different for her compared to the rest because she actually knows him and would like him for who he actually is instead of being another surface-level fly swarming him. The "keep the status quo because I'm scared that we may lose something important if things change" childhood friend romcom fallacy.
If it is this kind of situation then when big bro and Houjou eventually interact, seeing a girl who genuinely isn't after big bro might be enough to shake things up for her and maybe unshackle her from the responsibility by showing her that she doesn't have to be the one girl in his life who isn't after him.
BUT THAT'S JUST A THEORY and honestly if she doesn't actually like him in that way I think the dynamic would still be nice.

On one hand, I do agree with you that not every time two characters interact it needs to be romance, people/characters can simply just be friends.

On the other hand, bro how can you not see her complete and total resistance to Big Bro's bullshit and total immunity to his Ikeman aura and not realize she's his missing other half. They are absolutely perfect together because Reiya needs a partner not a worshipper. No other woman is going to be able to choke out the hordes of simps trying to take her like she can. And she's chill enough to accept she'll always be second to Youta.

Where I think its heading is Reiya catches (or has caught) feelings and finds himself in the position of needing to pursue someone.

Go Youta. A husband has to provide for his wife after all. :smugnako:
Why does he need to provide for her? Did you completely miss the last arc where SHE was the one finding HIM the interesting rocks? smh.

Here's another thing that bugs me about Japan... The cultural 'thing' of saying "Thank you for your hard work"...
To me, it seems like an automated, pre-programmed response, and no one really means it. It is just expected.
You're right that it is expected, but that's how any introverted country would eventually become, and it's not necessarily just hollow praise.
You find it weird, and sometimes I feel the same way you do here, but Japan is built upon the ideals of community and appreciation for the small things.
You should focus more on what the lack of such phrases would imply in such a society: disassociation/discord. If you can't even appreciate someone's gesture, however small it may be, how are you gonna get along with them?

In the west we tend to compete instead of cooperate, so when someone praises us it sends us this signal of superiorty which many westeners love to hear, and replying with "thank you" seals this kind of societal transaction, but japanese people don't want to stand out: if you praise me, I'm gonna praise you in return to keep our current status quo. It's more of a "I'd rather we be together at the bottom, instead of being alone at the top" kind of thing.
(Or even, I'd rather we be togehter, period. No hierarchy there)

I believe this kind of mindset isn't necessarily good all the time, but it sure makes for a better society 95% of the time.

I ship Reiya and Yukimura together. I don't care if some of the readers here want them platonic to show off a different kind of close relationship, but I like these two being romantic.

So, a couple things that are largely implied through the comments so far but I don't think anyone specifically addressed:

1. Reiya has been shown to be a slob (or at least very unkempt) at home. Yukimura shows up, and he looks like he does out in public. So, is that because, unlike him being polite or not wanting to let anyone down in public, he actually genuinely likes Yukimura and wants to put his best face on?

2. About the "is it cigarette censorship?" thing... I get where that's coming from, but it doesn't make much sense unless it was the author's concept before drawing things out simply because Yukimura is shown to do this indoors, she interacts with the object (the luck thing on page 4), and then way back in chapter 10 she has something in her mouth at school. So, yeah, it was meant to be candy from the start.

I'm sorry hasekawa... i can't cheer for you anymore. Your obsessiveness is nothing against the tomboy. In fact, it's bringing you into the negatives even.
