even if his brother has a good heart i still want to murder him, (idk why)
Probably because he comes across as pretty ignorant considering MC's issues with him goes way back. He either doesn't care or completely apathetic about the whole thing which is pretty concerning for a sibling who is this close in age imo. Entire thing being inside MC's head doesn't really excuse it because any human being with half a brain would pick up his distrust attitude. Instead he stands there dumbfounded like a drooling retard.

As a side note, why is Houjou is so invested /interested in the MC? Is this ever explained? (aside from the classic self insert romcom writing that is, like the other girl who fell in love with the brother because he removed a petal from her head because that's just a different kind of "he picked up my eraser so i love him")

Houjou cares so much even for a simple flower... which... why and how did it get moved so weird... hahah. And yeah our boi is finally realizing something a little bit at least. Use that confidence she gave you to try hard... in 3 heckin' events?! He's too sporty ugh hahah. So if a bread eating race isn't about eating bread then what is it about?! D:

Living under the shadow of a perfect big sibling can really be hell, especially when you're younger.
I never had that problem, even though I'm the youngest, but it isn't uncommon to see people whose family relationships were seriously damaged because of it.

One thing that stands out is the attitude of the MC's parents; they actually seem pretty supportive. One of the most damaging parts of this kind of situation is when the parents are the ones constantly making the comparison and being toxic about it. That feeling of "My parents gave up on me for my perfect siblings" is a disaster for any teenager.
What also is great in this story is how his older brother cried after being turned down by our MC. We can see he doesn't think badly about his little brother and just wants to have close relationship with him.

The parents might be supportive but that doesn't cut it. They fail to notice the boiling pot he has inside of him, and they also continued to support him chasing after his brothers shadow. He was completely fixated on what his brother did best and in turn missed the opportunities to find the things he could do best, idr correctly but was he good at cooking?

Agreed. MC has obvious issues with never measuring up and is constantly used by people trying to get close to his brother. If the brother hasn't noticed that, he's not good person. At best, he's a callously oblivious.
