I don't think the author thought that deeply about the story, I think he set up the plot in a way that he could talk about different subjects per chapter as if they were always one shots.

This story has always had an edge of tragedy to it. Yes, even the early chapters, just look at the flashback in Chapter 2. While it's largely slice-of-life, the whole premise centers around Aoi trying to help Mashiro feel like she doesn't want to die because she was so hopeless when they met. There's always an undercurrent of despair.

And right now, it feels like we're heading towards a tragic ending, or at least a bittersweet one. I'm worried. I still don't think Aoi loves her in the regular way, I think his feelings are just a dependency on her as the only other person. And I think he's just as aware of that.

Haha, I see I'm not the only one really wondering what she did in the loops before MC joined in.

It's such an interesting dynamic of one not understanding emotional love, but understanding physical love and vice-versa for the other.
