Ya know what usually I hate MCs that seem to think their monks but I kinda understand it here.

As pointed out this isn't him being scared or embarrassed it's the idea of moving forward onto the unknown something genuinely different in a world where everything is always the same.

Good allegory for the coming of age that happens at that 17/18 year old benchmark when you have to step out of school if you think about it.
