Long time reader of Hajimete no Gal, decided to try this to see if the author is still able to make an interesting series. Plus, I liked Gal sensei so I'm always ok with more explicit works from him.
Bing read 25 chapters and now it turns out it won't be on mangadex anymore.
I'm curious enough that I'm going to che at least the next few chapters on other sites, but if it also starts having an irregular schedule, chance I'm going to forget about it are concrete.
I'll try to remind checking this when I see a new Hajimete no Gal chapters.

doesn't matter if it only flashes boob or there's a whole nude scene, the rating elevated to PG minimum,
doesn't matter if it only has 1 sex scene or the whole orgy, the rating elevated to R,

yeah they're not always consistent,
but who cares about the rating?
what benefit or demerit does it give you whether it is rated erotica or suggestive?

Two things, probably:
1) amount of readers: I assume a lot of people have any rating above "suggestive" turned off either deliberately or by default, which limits their reach
2) as the tl guy said himself, inconsistency in ruling can be annoying to witness, at least for some particular people.

Look, I feel for you over the tags situation and I was even on your side in the beginning but I thought that was over and done with. Dredging it up AGAIN and leaving the entire site because of it is where you lose me. I'll probably visit if I'm desperate but most likely I'll just forget about this until someone else picks it up if that can even happen according to someone else they aren't able to edit even as a group leader. so my perspective on the ”erotica” tag is: if it has nudity or really sexual scenes (even if there’s not necessarily nudity, like boobs with no/erased nips) then it’s ero, anything less is basically suggestive or none as it should.
I didn’t read hajimete no gal (i did watch it tho) so I can’t say much about it, but for this… yeah it’s erotica no cap.

in a perfect world I would like everything to be well organised, but it’s not a perfect world and I don’t think it’s that big of a deal in the first place, there’s a bit about this site that I don’t like (like how little tags we have, can’t we at least have a m/f mc tags?) but i would say everything is reasonable so far

You ever sit back and think, how did it come to this? ‘Cause I do. Six months. Six whole months since the PEEP tag situation, and I’m still locked outta editing manga titles.

But that’s not even the issue here, ‘cause now? Here we go again. Hajimete no Gal—the rare gem—just got its sexual content rating bumped up. And now, according to MangaDex, it’s sitting right there with PEEP. Capisce?

But lemme tell ya something—Hajimete no Gal ain't even close to being as heavy as PEEP. Not even in the same league. And yet, they’re putting ‘em on the same level, like it’s all the same thing.

You mess with PEEP, I can accept. I do. I really do—after some war fatigue, you learn to pick your battles. But you mess with Hajimete no Gal?

Now that, that’s crossing a line.

And what’s worse? No discussion. No debate. No warning. Just bam, some guy in a room makes the call, and that’s it. Everyone else just has to deal with it. They didn’t learn a damn thing from what went down with PEEP ‘cause they won, didn’t they?

And that’s the real issue here. If we’re gonna raise the rating after a real discussion—after the community agrees—fine. Then we raise it. But this? This is just some arbitrary decision, made behind closed doors, no input from the people who actually care.

You think it stops here?

It ain't just about the tags. It’s about respect. It’s about principles. They start small—change a tag here, remove a chapter there—but then what? Maybe next time, your account disappears, and no one even knows why. No explanation, no warning, just gone.

And if they can pull this kinda move over something this minor, what happens when it’s something bigger? How am I supposed to trust them to be fair when it really counts?

I can’t. And when you’re dealing with people like this, there’s only one move left.

sad to hear that you had a fallout with the mangadex staff. also, young magazine is a seinen magazine. i just had hoped the series was successful enough to stay on the magazine since that means more cash and motivation for the author.

Wow, that is way more explicit compared to Hajimete but it only gets ”Suggestive”?

So having full on sex through a whole chapter is suggestive, but another manga having their breasts groped by shadow hands is erotica? Such weird decisions.

Two things, probably:
1) amount of readers: I assume a lot of people have any rating above "suggestive" turned off either deliberately or by default, which limits their reach
2) as the tl guy said himself, inconsistency in ruling can be annoying to witness, at least for some particular people.

2.1) Inconsistent enforcement raises questions as to what makes X manga different so as to not warrant such a rating.
3) Someone looking for erotica would be very disappointed to see barely any sex acts, especially compared to other works. Gal-sen, also by Meguru Ueno (the author of My First Girlfriend is a Gal, or Hajimete no Gal if you prefer, and PEEP) regularly features more explicit, on-page sexual activity. At least with Tsurenai Kanojo no Hitorijime above, it is possible to easily tell where in the manga the rating is warranted; a slightly lewder scene in a work with already lewd undertones may be missed entirely and leave the reader wondering "is that where the tag applies?"

I originally asked about the tag change out of curiousity, not intending to cause such a storm, and while I understand their reasoning for bumping up the rating, I feel that the scenes cited for the reasoning are de minimis compared to the rest of the series.
