I feel like the slavery aspect was unnecessary. Could have make her a strong but introverted adventurer who moved into town and is looking for a place to stay. Find out about the little potion seller and strikes a deal, gets meals, discounted potions at cost and a spare room in exchange for helping out.

Can't really recomend the "Anime" at all, it's more of a slideshow than anything. but might be worth watching if you want to get a clearer image of what the characters might sound like, the episodes are only like 12min so it's not too bad

By this point we already know Japanese fantasy authors, especially of the isekai variety, have a fetish for "white" slavery and use any excuse they can to cram it into their stories. White in the sense that it's actually a good thing and not the enslavement, objectification, and dehumanization of another sentient being. Getting an explanation for it at all is a luxury. Best to just accept it and move on.

yes, one of the worst tropes. it's almost never necessary.
This one did a much better job of justifying it than usual, and it still wasn't necessary.
